Cameron Diaz has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She is the 2,368th person to receive the honour and she credited the honour to her parents who she believed had given her the strength to succeed.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the actress said: "It will be cool to be under people's feet.

"It really is the place where people can understand exactly that actors are not really stars - they don't exist in the sky, they exist on the ground just like everybody else."

Diaz's breakthrough role came in 1994 when she appeared alongside Jim Carrey in comedy The Mask, a role that propelled her to instant fame.

After comedy success in the likes of My Best Friend's Wedding and There's Something About Mary, which really did cement her as a comedy actress, she moved into the big budget blockbuster.

She starred alongside Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the big screen adaptation of Charlie's Angels before moving into the successful Shrek franchise.

She's back on the big screen this week with Mu Sister's Keeper.
