Bobcat Goldthwait is to receive the first-ever Commie Award at the upcoming Los Angeles Comedy Shorts Film Festival.
The funnyman, who made his name in Police Aademy, will be honoured during Sunday's (08Mar09) closing ceremony in Hollywood for his "outstanding comedical achievements in the field of comedy excellence".
Goldthwait's longtime pal Tom Kenny - the voice of SpongeBob Squarepants - will present the star with his Commie. The pair was once part of a comedy double act.
Police Academy was Goldthwait's first major movie role and throughout the mid to late eighties a string of comedy parts came his way including One Crazy Summer, Burglar with Whoopi Goldberg and Scrooged with Bill Murray.
He moved into directing in 1991 with Shakes the Clown but really only concentrated on this part of his career since 2000.
He worked on a string of television shows including The Man Show, Crank Yankers before taking over ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2004 until 2006.
He left the show to pursue his film career and Sleeping Dogs Lie was the follow up to 1991's Shake the Clown.
