Shame

Shame

Michael Fassbender has seen his star rocket over the last couple of years but Shame could see that star rise even further.

The movie sees him reunite with Hunger director Steve McQueen and it has been the film that everyone has been talking about on the festival circuit.

Fassbender has already picked up a Best Actor gong for his performance at the Venice Film Festival and there are some early Oscar whispers - could he pick up his first Best actor Oscar nomination?

Shame is the first movie for McQueen since his stunning debut feature Hunger back in 2008 - he has also penned the screenplay for the project.

And Fassbender is not the only big name actor on the cast list as he is joined by Carey Mulligan and James Badge Dale.

The more performances I see from Mulligan the more I excited I am to see her next - 2011 has been a great year for her with Never Let Me Go and Drive under her belt; two stunning performances.

And a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod could well be on the way for the Brit actress for her performance in this movie.

Brandon (Fassbender) is a 30-something man living in New York who is unable to manage his sex life.

After his wayward younger sister (Mulligan) moves into his apartment, Brandon’s world spirals out of control.

Shame is a compelling and timely examination of the nature of need, how we live our lives and the experiences that shape us.

Shame looks set to be one of the early must see movies of 2012 and it has been a film that I have been looking forward to for some time.

Do not be surprised to see this movie feature heavily when the awards season kick in - it could well be walking away with a few gongs over the coming weeks.

Shame is released 13th January.
