A 12-track masterclass in songwriting and production, its undoubtedly one of the albums of 2007 and features the politically punchy first single Going To A Town,' available for download from April 30th with a special-edition iTunes package, May 7th.A stark, emotional, socially pertinent track of layered, richly textured sounds, its the first song to be taken from the eagerly anticipated album. Written and produced by Rufus, who also orchestrated the tracks luscious string section, the song also boasts Richard Thompson on electric guitar.
Going To A Town will also be available as a mobile download, with exclusive access to the video by visionary director Sophie Muller.
An opulent, sophisticated LP recorded between New York, London and Berlin, Release The Stars is a welcome return for the artist whos widely regarded as one of the most respected and innovative performers of his generation. It also sets a benchmark in Rufus illustrious career, marking the first time he's produced his own album.
Release the Stars is the fifth Rufus Wainwright album. All songs are written by Rufus. Neil Tennant is the executive producer while long-time collaborators Marius de Vries and Andy Bradfield mixed the album.
