Will i get penalty points on my new license if........

Postby me is me on Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:37 pm

Hi all,

I have just got my driving license 2 weeks ago, ok, and today i was driving out in town for the first time on my own. I am not very familiar with the road so i was driving very carefully. I reached a 3 lane road at the traffic light, light was on red, i wanted to go straight ahead but i suddenly realised i was on a left-hand-turn-only road. Stupid me, so i turned my car slightly to the right and then i realised that the head of my car is on the right hand land, and the bottom of my car is on the left hand land. The light is still on red, and here goes, a police car came behind me. He was waiting to turn right.

As soon as the traffic light turns green, i carried on turning right and go straight ahead, i was so frightened that the police was going to stop me for dangerously overtaking. Nothing happened. However, i saw him looking at me through my window. That scared me to death.

Okay, he didnt stop my car, but I am now so worried that i will get a court letter or something like that. I sure dont want to get penalty points on my new license. Does anyone know if its possible that the cop will send me some warning letters instead of stopping me on the road? :(

Please give me some advice, i am so worried

It's almost certain nothing will happen, if he didn't stop you there and then. Everybody makes mistakes (especially with a police car behind them) and the police know this. Try not to let circumstances spook you, especially while you're in the frame for double penalty points because you're a new driver. (No pressure!)

Yes, if the Cop didn't pull you over there and then you're likely in the clear. He no doubt saw that you were worried about the mistake you had made and because of that were likely to learn from it.

Since it happened close to a year ago, I doubt we will see a follow-up post stating (the unlikely case) that he got a ticket for this incident.
