Dear all,

I have the world's most fantastic GF, and I have at long last build up the courage to ask her to marry me.

I am excited beyond beliefs - not that I have the slightest doubt she will say yes, but it is just a really big thing for me.

I hate shopping, but even looking for her ring is so incredibly exciting.

I want the proposal to be "uniquely ours" - and it will be, but I would still love to hear your thoughts and ideas about what "works" and what does not.

I was looking through the forum for ideas, but sadly the closest I got was a lot of girls discussing why their BFs did not ask - and a couple of less than serious remarks about cutting off treasured body parts or just sending the credit cards...

Hoping to get some really great inspiration!

Thanks Laughing

Thanks, that's very true - but why not have a greatly dressed window as well...

Anyways, I'll get it right - one way or the other!

I always dreamed it would be like this:

He'd tell me he was taking me away for the weekend, but not tell me where.
We'd arrive somewhere cheesily romantic, like Paris, Prague, Rome....or something, and have a great weekend, enjoying each others company.
Then on the last night, we'd go somewhere pretty, overlooking the city all lit up, and he'd get down on one knee and ask.

Most importantly, he'd be sincere, and he wouldn't ask when there are other people about.

I've also dreamed that I'll ask him from the driving seat of a racecar, as we're about to do battle on the drag strip (thus ensuring I get to the finish line first Laughing )

Before he proposed, I'd sometimes daydream when we were together and have to stop myself from asking him!

As it was, it was just the two of us, on a hilltop, overlooking the town where we live. He stood behind me with his arms around me, and said something along the lines of "I brought you up here to ask you to marry me" That was very uniquely ours.
I'll have to work on getting him to marry me on the start line of he dragstrip Laughing

Try taking her on a scuba diving holiday and while you are under water with all the beautiful coral reefs ask her to marry you maybe you have to write it on a board or something. Very nice. Well i think so anyway.

If my partner proposing i wouldnt want it to be on some romantic holiday everyone does that. I would want it to be an event that I would not forget for the rest of my life.

More or less how i'd want to ask them, except i'd take em to a beach at dusk and ask then, so the light would catch the ring and make it look so different

my fiance is from chile and we were at his parents house in august staying with them. i was having a lot of trouble learning to speak spanish and so be bought me a little book of phrases that are used in Chile. although they do speak spanish its like a varient of spanish that they use.

anyways, i had my head in this book for a few days trying to learn things when suddenly i couldnt find it anymore. i hunted high and low and eventually found it on his bed in his parents house.

in it, there was this little peice of paper with written "¿te amo, usted soy mi vida, yo deseo pasar el resto de mi vida con usted como mi esposa, mi amor con usted me caso?" on it and a little bit underneath saying "translate and let me know?" and i had to spend like a good four or five hours translating this.

i wrote it down in broken bits and when i read it it went something like... love to you, you I am my life, I wish to pass the rest of my life with you like my wife, my love with you I marry? and i was all OMG....and he was behind me laughing and said "will you marry me" ?

ii said yes Wink

one day i hope to marry my man, i'd wait for him to propose though, cos i'm old fashioned.

i know it would probably be a simple proposal, but i'd hope that he wouldn't do it in front of lots of people cos i think that's so tacky

i would say never do it on a special day eg valentines day, birthday etc because if god forbid you do break up, then for the rest of your life, those days are going to be painful not nice
