Hi

My Name is Marcus, I am 45 years old and live in Northern Germany, therefore my english may not be perfect, sorry if I do make mistakes.

I have 2 children, a 11 year old daughter and a 9 year old son. My daughter got her ears pierced when she was a baby, and got a second pair at age 6.
My son got his ears pierced at age 5, it was his decision.

No my daughter wants to get her belly button and her nose pierced, but I am afraid she is too young for things like that.

So my question to the community is: At what age is it okay to allow children to get body mods beside their ears?

Should I allow my daughter to get pierced, or should she wait until 16, which is my opinion?

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I just asked because Iīve read a few statements from users in the earring for boy thread, and I got the feeling that I am probaly too strict with my kids.

I know itīs illegal without parental consent, but I do think my daughter would go to the piercingshop without my consent.

Honestly, I would say that it's your decision on what age she should be allowed. What others think rarely matters, and in some cases, alot of people ask for advice but never take it anyway so if you think 16 is right for your daughter to have her belly done, then that's the rule your daughter is going to have to live with. I wouldn't allow mine have it done untill she was 15/16 either, and even when she does turn 16, I'd be reluctant to let her have it pierced then. As for Nose and Tongue (Other Body), I wouldn't allow it at all, I'd probably even forbid it.

It really has to be your decision. Many people would say that she is too young. My mum was quite relaxed over piercings. I got my nose done for my 10th birthday, my belly button for my 12th birthday and my nipples at 14 all with Mum's permission. My ears were pierced as a baby and from 5 onwards I was allowed to add to them. I am now 18 and have 10 in each ear.

For a belly button piercing, it may be better to wait until the body is close to finished growing. Otherwise, the jewelry may could migrate. But I have heard of cases where girls got their belly buttons pierced around age 10, and had no problem. I guess it depends on the person.

As for the nose piercing, it would probably be OK. What you would need to be concerned with here is how popular nose jewelry is where you live. It is more popular some places than others.

Also, consider the fact that a nose piercing is permanent. Once it is done, it will take reconstructive plastic surgery to remove it. If I had a daughter that wanted such, I would explain these things to her first. I'd tell her that even though I was not against it, that there are things that I think she would need to consider. The nose piercing is a VISIBLE piercing, and the belly button piercing is not.

As for an 11 year old daughter, I think I would opt for the belly button piercing to start with. But just my opinion.

Hi all,

Thank you all for your replays, it helped me a lot. I talked to my daughter last night and I explained the thing with the nose piercing and the belly button piercing to her.

We overcame that she could get her belly button pierced now, and her nose for her 12th birthday if she still want it then.

Now to my region: In northern germany especially in Kiel piercings and tattoos are very popular. I was shocked when I saw a mother with her 7 year old daughter last week in the local piercing shop. She asked for a belly button and a nosering for her daughter. I canīt believe a 7 year old girl is mature enough to decide, if she really wants this 2 piercings.

But in a few other threads here I have read that girls or boys do get pierced at a younger age in the UK. Iīve read the mother daughter experience where a woman and her 10 year old daughter got their noses pierced together and a posting from a woman, who wants her 6 year old son to have his nose pierced.

Hello

I jsut wanted to tell you that my daughter got her belly button pierced yesterday, and everything went well. The pain was bearable as she told me afterwards, and she also told me that she is the happiest girl now.
But she insists to get her nose pierced too.

Another thing: Iám going to provide a picture of my daugherīs pierced belly as soon as possible, is there anyone here who would also like to provide a photo from his/her childīs piercing?

yours

I had to wait until I was 14 to get my belly button pierced.. this I think was pointless because my mum thought I wouldn't want it when I was 14. Its really up to the parents though.

i really think you should let your 11 year old daughter have it done. I am 11 years old and i SO want mine done but my mum and dad said im not allowed. If she wants it done as much as i do you will make one VERY happy girl if you let her.
but that's just my opinion

Hi

My problem is, that if I would let her get it right now, she will ask for a tongue piercing next week, for a nipple piercing in 2 weeks and so on.

Yes I do want to make my daughter a happy girl, but on the one hand 11 is a bit too young I think for getting a lot of piercings on the other hand piercing for girl under 14 years is not very common in germany.

are there any users here who do have a girl between 10 and 12 with more than 1 piercing?

yours

@ julio

She was already allowed to get her belly button pierced, which is healing perfectly I think. I bought her a new diamond barbell yesterday.
