hey, im 15 and honestly i think i should be able to have sex at my age... if it protected but i dunno... i was adopted b/c my birth mother had me and my twin brother when she was young and she was adopted as well when her mother had her at a young age.... so i know i cant get pregnant...but i dunno if im right when i think i can have sex.... any opinions

When a person's mature enough to deal with sex isn't written in stone – it's very individual, depending entirely on how emotionally mature you are.

First of all, can I ask why you want to have sex at 15? Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with it, I'm just curious as to your motives. Are you in love with somebody? Just want to find out what all the hype's about? Or am I totally on the wrong track because you don't want to have sex but think the law ought to be changed to allow it?

At least you're showing that you're sensible by mentioning protection.

i dunno what to think about the laws... b/c i have friends who date up like my bestfriend is 17 and she is dating a 19 year old.... illegal... so i dunno

First, are you sure your friends have actually had sex? I'm not being funny but more often than not, it isn't that great to start with. Lack of experience on both parts doesn't exactly make for satisfying sex. Having had long chats with my own daughter and her friends, I know that most of them think it's a lot of hype over nothing. Fortunately, it improves with experience and when real emotions become involved.

As for your friend who's 17 and her boyfriend who's 19...what's illegal about that? They're both over the age of consent and can bonk as much as they like. What would be illegal is if you had a boyfriend who was 16. Silly, I know, but when they make these laws they have to put a limit somewhere. The thing is though, this law isn't there to stop you having sex with your 16 year old boyfriend (I'm being hypothetical here) but to stop dirty old men having sex with 15 year olds (and younger). If your parents decided to take your b/f to court for having sex with you, the judge would probably be very lenient - a totally different case if your b/f had been, say, 23... or an older man who'd lured you into bed with him. D'ya see what I mean?

My daughter had sex when she was 15 - her b/f was 16. I knew about it and had no reason to be upset with her b/f. Why would I? They'd been seeing each other for a while and she felt the time was right. They've since split (she's now eighteen) and she's had a few partners since but has decided now to wait until she's in love because she feels that she's already had too many partners in her time. So... having sex whilst still young isn't necessarily a good thing.

As I said in my first post, when a person's ready is very individual. Whatever you do, though, I don't think you ought to do it just because you're curious because I'm pretty sure your friends are exaggerating and saying what they think they're expected to say.

No i think she is saying, since her mother beared here at a young age and her mothers mother did, and they wer both adopted that she doesnt want to make that mistake also and get pregnant and have to adopt her child! I think thats what she is saying anyway.

Sex is a form of expression and communication. I suggest you master verbal and written communication and thinking before you branch out into other areas. You are no where near mature enough yet. You just 'want'.

I was 13 the first time. I felt pressured, I was sure I was the only one who was still a virgin at 13 because everyone else had told me that they lost it when they were 12, I was curious, it's a long story. But it wasn't all it was hyped up to be. It was clumpsy, awkward, absolutely unromantic, it hurt like hell, I bled a lot, it hurt and bled the first three times. I wish I had waited until I was 21 when I met my husband or at least had waited until I was 18.

I'm curious about your motive too. Good you thought about protection, so did I, but I felt too intimidated to enforce it.

I agree with the things Dioritt wrote, unfortunately I wasn't mature enought o see it back then, hell I didn't even know about the law and the consequences it could've had for the guys I went to bed with until I was 16.
