Still in nappies.

Hi All,

I am a fairly new poster so nice to meet you all*waves*

My son is 3 1/2 he is toilet trained throughout the day without any problems. The thing is he will not "poo" in the toilet, he will only do it in a nappy. If I keep the nappy off him he holds the poo and gets stomach ache until I put his bedtime nappy on. He is still not capable of going a whole night without wetting so his night time nappy is pretty essential.

Will he only stop this when the night time nappies are gone or is there anything I can do to help him learn to "poo in the loo"?

No, he does it sitting down.

Since writing this have tried a sticker chart but he held it for three days then he accidently went in his nappy and screamed the place down because he was so dissapointed in himself, I felt so sorry for him.

You carnt expect a 3 1/2 yr old to hold it in as he'll just do it any way through the day leave his nappy off and tell him big boys dont wear them and through out the day just keep asking him if he needs a wee or poo and then he'll learn to use it more

Let me explain where we are at the moment.

I kept his nappy off for 5 days and did a sticker chart, after one slight accident that he got very upset I still continued to keep the nappy off. He then held it and held it and held it until BANG his tummy exploded all over my floor, he got the runs so bad and was in tears with tummy ache.

What do I do? If I leave him will he be in nappies till he is 25? Any more help gratefully needed.

What I would do is keep the nappy off and after meals etc ask him if he needs to poo and take him to the toilet, stay with him and perhaps read a book or something? If he doesn't poo then at least you are still familiarising him with going to sit on the toilet regularly.

The other thing you can try doing is leaving the nappy off at night and provide clean sheets, making him clean up his mess himself. He'll soon get tired of it. You just have to be persistant.

on the hour for 15 mins sit him on his pottty and you sit on the loo
pretending to poo, if this does not work, then try

feeding yoursef and him diacalm and 2 boxes of bran flakes for two days
then on the third day duck tape him to his potty and give him and yourself
a massive doses of caster oil and laxatives.

That is one of the most dangerous and stupid things I have ever seen on the internet. Feeding a toddler a laxative could cause him to become so dehydrated that he would die. Which is the reason why when babies and toddlers get a runny tummy they need extra liquids and electrolite solution.

My 7 year old girl actually told me that she prefers and enjoys using terry nappies instead of panties and alot of the time has refused to take them off. Recently I had no option but to diaper her because she wet so much during the night, I had to use several nappies which i bought from the internet (thicker nappies for older children).

What makes kids like towelling nappies so much > Is it the material, look etc. I'm worried that my daufghter is reacting in this way

My little 5 year old girl loves to wear terry nappies rather than disposables at night as she still wets at night.

I just recently noticed that it's the plastic pants she likes!

Recently, the only time she'll wear a disposable is if she has her plastic pants over them so I agreed.

But last week I caught her without her nappy and wearing only her plastic pants.She was touching herself through them and I was quite shocked but didn't say anything.

She wants to wear nappies through the day but i'm sure it's the plastic pants she likes.

What will I do if she asks to wear a pair over her knickers?

I don't know what to do.

Recently I went to visit my daughter in her rented studio appartment close to Southbank uni (she's 18) and whilst she went to the bathroom I decided to put her clothes in her drawer that ironed and washed for her.

In her underwear drawer I felt some very soft towels and aload of them all the way down. I thought the were innocent bath towels but then as I pulled one (they were all folded really neatly) out they were larhe white square towelling. Too thick and soft to be towels, they were definitely terry towelling, they were infact Adult size nappies. As i opened her other 3 drawers they were full on them and plastic pants as well as mother care nappoy pins. I guess they must've been about 30 nappies. I even found a pair of terry knickers

I didn't say anything to her and acted like nothing had happened. She enever said anything to me. Saying that, she does have a history of liking nappies and plastic pants as a child, we once caught her wearing her sister's terries when she was 9)
Has she been wearing for some time and where did she buy them from, I didn't even know u can buy adult terry nappies, do they sell them over the net ?

anybody got suggestions ?

Your problem is different to mine but could end up the same over time.

I like to use terry nappies on her but due to my daily workload disposables are so much easier.

As I said she won't wear a disposable unless I put a pair of plastic pants over them (which isn't necessary)

I really think it's the plastic pants that she has an obsession with.

I've heard of adults who like to wear nappies and plastic pants out of choice and can't help thinking that rather than grow out of it she'll wear them into adulthood,and from what you say adult sizes are abviously available.

Anyone have any suggestions?

As your duaghter's problem seems to be very similar to mines can I ask you, how did she become so interested in wearing terry nappies ? Did you find out naturally or did she physically tell you that she enjoys them. Do you use Zorbit/Mothercare range or do you buy them _- ones for older children ? Can u tell me what your daughter had been up to in her terries ? Have u ever caught her wearing them in secret i.e. under her clothes.

I was watching a parenting programe on sky and they said that children sometimes like the lovely terry towelling material, wee connects to a child's emotions and the nappy conatins them especially terry ones as the lovely thick towel is a sign of love, comfort and security.

Mind you, I myself wore terry nappies till I was 16, for bedwetting.

I think see only wanted a terry nappy because she knew she's have to wear plastic pants.That's why she got upset at a disposables unless she could wear plastic pants with them, and then I saw her wearing plastic pants on their own.She was touching the pants when I came into her room.

I hope I don't need to find adult ones!
