 It is sad. My husband met him years ago when RC was opposition health spokesman/shadow health secretary and was impressed with his integrity, sincerity and his intelligent desire truly to understand what needed doing to make the NHS work well and happily. My husband dislikes politicians, and has only ever been impressed by Robin Cook and Michael Foot.

Above all else, he was human, and whatever you might think about his divorce and his leaving his first wife for his secretary, it will only be people with selfish agendas who will not be saddened by his death.

What I think he might hate is the mawkish posturing of those who will now sing his praises whilst inwardly feeling relieved that he is no longer around to disagree with their power games.

Agreed, and I respect him for his stance on the war in Iraq too. He made a lot of good decisions.

I think Tony Blair was true to form by not attending the funeral. He is a nasty piece of work.

Agreed. HOW many holidays? Every time something happens Tony Blair is on holiday: 9/11-holiday, London Bombings-holiday, Iraq-holiday etc etc
