Donna,

My daughter accepts wearing a nappy and plastic pants to bed and there is no fuss when her nappy is being put on.

Rosi

There are lots of older kids who wear nappies due to bladder issues. How bad is your day time wetting? just thought that you may be better during the day in terry toweling knickers with plastic pants over. My eldest used to wear those at school and found they didnt show and could change herself easily.

Hi Rosi,

Terries have disposables beat as far as protection is concerned, but your mum is quite correct about increased visibility under clothing.

It helps to select loose fitting clothes of heavy fabric.

Even then you have to be careful about the fold with terries so that no bulk shows in the wrong place.

I don't know if you've tried Abena briefs, but they're said to be the best product. While more expensive, they supposedly can be worn longer so that the daily cost works out about the same.

hay lynda, every mrnin i wake up, i prey iam dry, but as always my nappy is wet thru, i hate it. : Hw does your daughter feel , whn she wakes up?
I hate my day time wetting, because i hav no control of it. I hav about 3-4 accidents aday. I hate school days, because my mum keeps me in my terry nappy till half an hour be4 we go, thn justd as we are about to leave, puts me into my day time nappy. iam in a special needs class due to my problem, but i still do the same work for people my age. Only my teacher and school nurse no iam wearing nappies, and my class mates carnt really tell iam wearing 1, because i whre a long knee skirt with black leggings over my nappy, whn i hav an accidnt, the nurse helps me change, which they are very understanding and dont make fun of me, as they no i carnt help it. I still get embaraasd and feel like a baby :( , even tho my mum and others dont do.. Does your daughter feel like this sumtimes?

What are terry towelling knickers, are they the same as my nite time nappy, but pull ups instead of pins. They sound really better thn disposable nappies, and are they comfy, as disposables make to much noise frm the plastic of thm, nd are too babyish. bye for nw. :D

Rosi,

As Lynda has not replied to you, I thought I'd try and help.

"Terry towelling knickers" are exactly as you have described, but not so bulky. Equally, because of that, they are not so absorbent. You would need to use plastic panties with them, but if your plastic panties are "quiet", then there will be no noise.

I also have continence problems, and often wear these knickers and plastic panties under my skirt, when I'm out and about. I find them very comfortable, and totally adequate for my needs. Your needs might be different, of course.

They are available from www.arizona.free-_.co.uk , and www.drylife.co.uk. I have bought from both, and in my opinion, the double thickness terry pants from arizona are better. Prices are about the same.

Okay, the site will not accept it like that......because of the hyphen. Try again....... www(dot)arizona(dot)free(hyphen)_(dot)co(dot)uk. Grrrrr!

It's normal that an older child still has to wear nappies at night and in some cases, in the day too e.g. long journeys. It's not a matter of being lazy or potty trained, at that age they are still in their bed wetting age and their bladders may not be able to cope and hold against the amount of water being produced, some mature quicker than others.
Although nappies are regarded as babyish, many even adults still need them which is why sizes such as Pampers Junior, Drynites etc. Even terry nappy squares or pants are designed with thicker baby terry towelling, to be used with pins are designed for children not able to hold and unfasten in time, these are highly comfortable to wear and effective at night.
Nappies help solve wet bed and clothing and are hoped for to make her dry overtime, many parents believe a dry nappy is a sign of recovery. However, like some have said, especially Huggies, pampers and thicker terry nappies and knickers the 'baby comfy and softness of the towelling' can make them want to wear and use them to wee instead of using it as emergency protection. This was the case with my 6 year old neice where she wouldn't get out of her 30 x 30 terry nappies after her parents used them on her for bedwetting.

bed wetting

Postby mumofkatie on Sun Jul 27, 2008 1:29 am

Hi Guys

Listen don't worry to much about children wetting the bed....this can be normal till the age of 6.

My daughter Katie is 6 and has a bladder problem in the sence it has been slow to grow and this causes her holding problems....when she needs to wee she has to go right away or within about 2 - 3 Mins she will have peed herself.

Katie also wets the bed most nights and wears Terry Nappies and Plastic pants to bed. Katie does wake up alot bursting to pee but most of the time when she sits up or stands up to got to the toilet she will start to pee herself.

Katie wears a disposible nappy if we go out somewhere we don't know where the toilets are or im taking her into town on the bus which is a 40 mins journey. I must stress if Katie needs to wee i will always attempt to find a toilet for her even when she has a nappy on.

I hear it so often while out where kids ask to go to the toilet and the parent says to the kid its okay you have a nappy on, or just pee in you nappy just because they are Lazy....It makes my blood boil. Don't get me wrong i have a few time told Katie when she has asked to go to the toilet just to use her nappy but always explain why....because i know there is no toilets anywhere nearby or we are on the bus with 1/2 hour to go...i know she will be wet within minutes anyway.

At bedtimes do you let Katie finish peeing in her terry nappies or run to the bathroom and take it off asap even if she has started to wet ? When you say sometimes she's dry in the morning, are her terries fully dry or are there still wet patches. Get teenage type terries if normal ones leak.

You may prefer to leave a potty beside her bed if thats of more use.

bed wetting

Postby mumofkatie on Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:26 pm

Hello allo

If Katie wakes and is bursting to pee she will get up to go to the toilet, If she starts to pee herself i usually just let her finish in her nappy as she has a very small bladder and would be finished wetting herself before i got it off her anyway.

Every now and the she will wake needing to pee and will make t to the toilet and these are the days she may be dry in the morning....she could not go a whole night without going to the toilet or peeing her nappy...when she is dry she is completely dry.

Katie already wears Terry nappies for her size which fit her fine and deal with her wettings.

do you have a bed wetter?

If this has been on going, have you taken her for a medical test to see if everything is ok ? You say sometimes she has a dry nappy by morning, can she hold on till you take her to the loo and unfasten it or will she lose control. You can teach her to unfasten the pins if its not to dangerous and than pull her nappies off herself.
In her case the terrry nappies should be of thicker and bigger and not one for babies. But should have the same softness touch as the baby product if they have to handle night wetness.

I have to confess that I actually wet the bed myself last night. Don't know why and I hadn't been drinking. Woke up at 4am and found my bed was soaked. Although I have a history of bed wetting and at one time wore protection to bed, it hasn't happened for a couple of years. Luckily I always have a plastic sheet on top of the mattress or I would have been busy today.
