Implanon implants

I've just been reading through the comments that everyone has made about these implants and can sympathyse with most of you! I had mine fitted last September and have put on about a stone in weight and have been unable to get rid of it, i thought it was my intake of food (although i try & eat healthily) but now realise it's probably down to the implant! I feel really fat and hate the way i look in my clothes (well the ones that actually fit me now) :( ! I'm hoping that by joining Weight Watchers i'll be able to shift some of this extra weight, only time will tell! My periods and moods have been all over the place since having it fitted (some days i'm really happy & other days i could cry for England)! It drives my Fiance mad :x when i become all emotional, but i can't help it  ! I'm dreading having it removed when the time is up, they'll have to knock me out first, LOL!! Does it hurt when it's removed & does it leave much of a scar?

hi mad frog having the evil imlpant taken out does not hurt and actually is such a relief! they give you an anathestic to numb it ( just like when they put it in) so im sure you wont feel any pain! the scar im left with is like a purple spot its very small and i had mine out in feb of this year. good luck and i hope it makes you feel better. however i would advice going onto another contraception straight away if ur not intending to get preggers! i never and thought i would give my body a rest and now am expecting my 3rd baby in november. i never even had a period after the implant was taken out, so be careful lol good luck and let us know how you get on

implant removal update

Postby Guest on Mon Jul 21, 2008 2:38 pm

hi all

well it's been 3 weeks now since i had the eveil blighter removed! I can honestly say i feel like a new women! I had my first period last week and feel normal again, don't feel like killing anyone or myself and feel like an air of calm has washed over me!

what worries me is that the doctors were more willing to try me on anti-depressants first rather than taking the implant out..SCARY!

It might be different for some women but it made me evil and i wouldnt recommend it!

no problems

i had to post because i am quite shocked by all these issues. I had the implant in dec '07 so been with it for about 7 months now.

I had it put in while i was on my period as usual and when that one ended i haven't had a period or the pains since. Been great to be honest, 7 months period free!

I was depressed when i had it put in, my moods drastically improved but was still depressed (external factor). Since dropping the boyfriend who was causing the depression my moods have been fine (with of course the usual break up blues) but ive felt fine. Can't say i'm 100% happy all the time but thats normal things like missing my friends etc

I did gain weight, i can't say how much but it was about 2 stoneish. I started dieting two weeks ago and have lost 7 pounds...not as much as i'd hoped considering what a dietary change ive made (much healthier and less)

So i'm doing some research to have it removed to see if it helps weight loss....

The problem is, apart from weight gain i have had no other issue with it and only positive effects. Moods lightened, Periods stopped, no pains and i love the contraceptive %.

Since i am not with a partner at the moment i may as well get it removed because of trying to loose weight but i am still unsure...means i have to get period pains back!!!

Hope this post helps...i don't want people put off the implant and would always suggest trying it as i think some people will get a reaction like me and i think it was a great decision! You can always have it removed if you get negative effects and as always, contraceptive choices need a lot of thought :)

the contraceptive implant

hey, i stumbled across this website whilst researching the side effects. I had mine fitted in Aug 07 and after a yr of putting up with it ive just about had enough.
I was originally meant to have the coil as ive been on the mini pill, combined pill and the depro prevera, i cant have hormones as they make me ill and I always end up having the uncommon side effects. Plus thrombosis and oravrian cysts run in my family.
When i went to have the coil fitted at the family planning clinic the doctor refused to give it me even though m doctor had refererred my notes explaining the situation, he told me that i was to have the implant without telling me the side effects or the procedure. He didnt give the aneasthetic time to work meaning i felt everything, he was struggling to get it into my arm and using too much force which bruised me much more than most patients.
With the implant I am having hot flushes, migraine, pains in my joints and muscles, anxiety attacks, tiredness, mood swings, irregular bleeding and much more.
Now after a yr on it and getting no sense or advice from the numurous doctors and nurses i have seen, i went bk to the family planning clinic to sort it out.
I saw the head nurse who spoke to me like a child, didnt let me explain and told me i was a lier and a hypercondriact, she didnt help me one bit. All she did was shout at me and told me that i needed to try every other method first before having the coil fitted, which i have, she then told me that they dont just do precedures willy nilly because some girl thinks she is the few handful of people who have all the uncommon symptoms. I am completely stuck and am fed up of not being listened too and feel fed up of the weight i have gained 2 (3 stones in 3 yrs) i have stretch marks covering my back, thighs, bum, backs ofm my legs and all over my love handles.

My friend had one put in (under pressure) when she had a termination and now the doctor has refused to take it out until she can show evidence of taking another contraceptive (but not condoms).

She has put on loads of weight and it makes her feel nauseous but the Doctor has refused to treat her full stop now.

That is well unbelievable they should take it out straight away if she doesnt want it. and they can not make her go on another contraceptive. Mayb your friend should go to another doctor.

hey if you live in the uk and are 25 or under you could go to the brook and get it removed and the coil fitted. as for not being listened that is well unbelievable of the doctors they should listen to you. I think that if they continue not to listen to you you should take it further since it sounds like it can effect your health.

contraceptive implant

I have recently found out that the nurse i saw at the family planning clinic was the head nurse and the doctor (who put it in even though my notes said i was to have the coil) is the best doctor in my area.
I visited my doctor today and she hasnt advised me as such, i was sent for blood tests to see if the symptoms are due to something else and then she said that she could prescribe me stronger pain killers to mask the headaches and the pain as my only other option is the coil, which she doubts will be able to be fitted.
Ive decided to wait till i have the results from the blood tests as to whether i have it out. I really believe that all the problems i am having is due to the implant but everyone i talk to keeps saying its not, when i was on the pill and the depro prevera i had all the same problems.
I jst dont know wherwe to turn and what to do for the better all i know is i cant putup with this any longer its unbearable
Does anyone have any advice?

Implanon

Hi, I first had the injection and had terrible side effects. Losing hair, very depressed all the time and a great deal amount of weight gain. Unfortunately it takes a long time for the injection to get out of your system!

Then the doctor told me I should try implanon. I didn't get as severe side effects but did spot all the time and did put on weight again. I got sick of spotting all the time. (for the first month I didn't get period at all) so I got it taken out. I got it taken out in NZ and they don't have it here, so she didn't know what she was doing and she was worried it snapped while she was trying to yank it out.

I have a great big scar on my arm now and it seems to be getting bigger which is weird. I am worried that there may be some of it left in my arm.
On the good side of it all, I have lost the weight and back to my usuall self!

Hi!

I had my implant taken out yesterday after a year - I gained a stone during that time which I couldn't shift, despite having been a constant weight for the six years prior to that! I have also become irrational and hormonal.

My Dr let me have it out straight away (though he said it was rare to gain weight on it!!) and is recommending one new type of mini pill or the Jasmin/Yasmin pill instead....

I still think it was worth trying the implant, though - works great for some people! But if you do have problems, remember that it could be the impant making you heavier/tired/bloated/evil!!

Implanon side effects? Hah!

I am unconvinced about weight gain as according to the research I have been doing, it's oestrogen that stimulates the body to gain fat, which is why we put on weight at puberty and pregnancy, and through use of some contraceptives. However the minipill, depro-provera and implanon use a synthetice progesterone hormone none as protesgtin. This mimics the effects of pregnancy in your body while at the same time preventing a pregnancy. But in trials it has not been linked to weight gain, I have found while using it that I have yo-yoed in weight but this has been due to my habits and not to the implant.

However I have had near constant acne all the time I've had the implant, my roseacea has got worse, it's decreased my sex drive to the point where I'm sure some pensioners are having sex more often than me, I've developed spider veins on my legs and torso and perhaps the worse thing is I've also developed fallen arches in my feet. All these things are linked to high progesterone levels or in our case high prosgetin levels.

The spider veins are ugly and keep getting worse, I've got legs like an old woman, I haven't been able to show off my legs or go swimming or face exposing them to a boyfriend so it's probably a good thing that I've got no sex drive. I will need schlerotherapy, a painful treatment to get rid of them, costing £200 a treatment and I will need several treatments. The fallen arches in my feet are very painful at the moment and I will need to spend £45 on a podiatrist consulation and between £50-120 on arch support insoles soon which should rectify the problem while walking but it's something I will have to leave with for the rest of my life.

I wish I had been aware of this when I got it and I want others to know about it too.

Alison

oct 2001 - diagnosed primary dysmenorrhea (very bad period pains)
oct 2001 - microgynon contraceptive pill prescribed, didn't help
march 2004 - moved onto depo-provera injections, periods stopped straight away
feb 2006 - got implanon

Hey all,

I had my implant put in in december 07 after having a medical termination. Since then i have found that i have put on 2.5 stone. I've had horrible mood swings, acne and also my sex drive decreased to nothing!

I have now had the thing removed mainly because of the weight issue but since then ive felt extremley sick, exhausted and having pains (almost like period pains) also the sex drive hasn't come back! Does anyone know how long the sickness lasts for? I had the implant removed on 14th july 08 and felt this way ever since.

I wasn't informed of any side effects when i had it inserted and i thought it was down to me eating too much, the wrong foods etc. I was going to the gym more than ive ever been and still not shifting any weight.

I found this page and noticed i wassn't alone and it was probably the implant giving me all these symptoms. Just wish i had seen this page before having the implant.

When will i ever feel normal again?? :(
