Implanon Removal last week

Postby Sophiej1982 on Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:15 pm

Hi everyone i had my implant out last week on the 3/7/8.
The story is i had been on the depo injection for around 5 years and never had a period all that time. When i went to have another injection as you have them every 12 weeks i was told by my doctor that i could no longer have them as long term it can cause brittel bones and can be linked to breast cancer!!
As i was single at the time and had no plans for children the implanon was offered to me and I thought it was a great idea. This was in April last year. I went along to the clinic had it put in and everything was fine.
Well i still never had a period and havent had one to this day! I have however put on nearly 2 and 1/2 stone and gone from a size 8 to a size 12 and i feel awful about it! So beware weight gain is a major issue with the implant!!
Now im in a long term, relationship have moved in with my boyfried and want to start having a family. But so worrried about concieving as ive not had a period for 6 years!!! Yes 6 years and im so worried and darent say anything to my boyfirend as i dont want to worry him.
Please can someone let me know how long it should take for things to start working again.
I know ive only had the implant out for 10 days but the nurse said my fertility comes back straight away and ive done an ovulation test twice and theyve both been negative!! I really want children im only 26 and feel thats it!
Anyone that wants the implant or any long term contraception should really think about the long term affects.
I really think i will never have a period ever again. Im so worried as anyone got any advise?

Hey im 18 and i had my implant put in a year ago. I had it removed a week ago today and came on my period instantly (well the day after!) Not noticed any weight loss yet, however it has only been a week!! Ive gone up from a size eight to a twelve and i feel FAT! That was the main reason i had it removed plus i had no sex drive and my boobs were increadibly sore!! That has totally dissapeared, my boobs are back to normal, im just hoping that my weight will be soon! I would never go on the implant again and i really wouldnt reccomend it! Anybody noticed any weight loss after removal?

I have had my implant since January this year and it is fine apart from Weight gain. I have been the same weight since I was 16 ( i am 26 now) and since i have put it in I have gained 2 KG( about 4pounds). I am taking it out in 2 weeks time and back on the pill again. Has anybody used Yasmin Pill? Please let me know as I like to try it soon. Thanks

Hiya I have used yasmin pill and I thought it was great, never put weight on was on a period for 4 days only and light with no pain but I had to come off it as I suffer with Migraines and it was supposed to be making them worse, now ive had the implanon inserted and feel awful. want the yasmin pill back, i have got a swallen belly constantly due to beeing on all the time.

I got implanon last january (after having 2 years of depo injections which was fine, except that you're only meant to stay on it 2 years!). it's been fine up till now except that i've been bleeding since mid july!!!! not period type bleeding at all just enough that i can't use a tampon and have to use all days pads!

can't say i've had any other trouble than this. i'm not sure that i can agree on the depression that i've heard many people talking about with implanon - can't be sure it's to do with implanon or anything else.

woudl be grateful for feedback on irregular bleedin (or at least, regular for almost weeks now!)
Hiya yes I have had the implanon over 2 months now and have been blleding for 5 days then off then bleeding but its not like a proper period its strange but Iam sick of using pads too and iam making myself sore using tampax and then I worry about that toxic shock from overusing tampax?

Weight Gain

Postby dozymoo80 on Thu Jul 17, 2008 10:58 am

I just thought I'd put my 2p's worth in. I was on the depo injection for about a year and in that time my weight ballooned. I tried dieting and exercise but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't shift it. I was also having very irregular and prolonged spotting which was very annoying.

I spoke to my doctor who said that the depo injection is like the mother of all hormone contraceptives and maybe I should try something a bit lighter. So I opted to have the implanon put in.

It's been in about 2 months now and my weight is slowly starting to go down now, although I'm still having to watch what I eat. And so far I haven't had any spotting. That's just my experience. Unfortunately every woman is different, so you really can't predict how your body will react.

Bleeding on the implant

Postby Petraann on Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:26 pm

I've had the implant for about 7 months now and have been plagued with contant bleeding, which is really getting me down. So far I've had my birthday, wedding anniversary and weekends away ruined by the bleeding. Trouble is I can't get anyone to remove it - they keep saying it's early days and to keep going. The doctor, who fitted it, says that they have had the funding withdrawn to remove them but the family planning clinic refuse to remove it also. I feel that it is an infringement on my human rights! I'm fed up with the mood swings, food cravings and bleeding and just want my life back. Because I'm still breastfeeding I'm limited to the type of contraception I can use, but at this rate, sex is out of the question anyway!! Help!

implanon bar

Postby kristybaby3 on Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:25 pm

I had my first implanon bar 3 years ago and today i have had that one removed and another inserted, all i have to say is that every woman is different with having this type of contraceptive and it will not be suitable for everyone, the only problem is that periods can be unpredictable and some women spot alot and some don't have a period at all, however, if this is the problem ( which i had after 2 years of having it in) you can ask your gp and they can also put you on the pill aswell as having the implanon bar, this will sort your cycles out and you will feel normal by having the usual period per month (as i found it strange having no period for long amounts of time) the good thing about this is that your periods are in a cycle and if you forget to take the pill or are ill you have the implanon as back up and obviously won't fall pregnant, overall the implanon bar is a very good contraceptive: you don;t have to worry about missing pills, and basically forget its there for 3 years.

It does however annoy me that women complain about weight gain because any contraceptive cannot be responsible for making you gain weight like they claim, if you simply aren't eating the calories then you won't gain weight, that is obvious, all that can happen is that your appetite may increase only slightly due to the hormone increase and fluctuation, therefore, if you are aware of it , you are then in control of whether you put on weight or not, contraceptives are NOT an excuse for putting on weight like alot of women claim.
Like i said before, everyone is different but the implant is certainly worth having especially in a long term relationship and as long as you are aware of the side effects( which may or may not be apparent) then you will be fine, there is always the option of removal :D

As for the procedure, you do have anaesthetic which is a small needle to numb the part of your upper arm that it is inserted into, it may feel uncomfortable but it does not hurt and you can't feel any pain it's just slight pressure and tugging depending on how tough your skin is! it is by all means tolerable and definately worth the ten minutes for 3 years of effective contraception !

Hope this sort of helps! feel free to post any reply

Bleeding on the implant

Postby Petraann on Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:17 pm

Just got back from the FPC. They have agreed to take out the implant next week, so I hope to start feeling better soon after. I think I'm going to give my body a hormone free break for a while before going back on the mini pill! I feel like a new woman - hooray!

kathryn234bluey wrote:Hi everybody! I wandered if anybody else has used the Implanon implant before, and lost weight after they have had it removed? I had mine put in in june last year, I am having it removed next week, and I must have gained at least 2 stone since it was put in, and I don't eat any different to what I always have. I used the mycrogynon pill on and off since I was 16, and ever since then my weight has fluctuated, after I had my two children I lost weight, went down to my pre pregnancy weight, but then started using the pill again and it shot up. I tried a diet at new year, I did really well, but didn't lose a single pound, and I think the implant is counter-acting any weight loss- I am trying to lose it but the implant isn't letting me. Also has anyone had it removed then tried for a baby, how long did it take to fall pregnant? When I use the mycrogynon pill in the past, I fell pregnant pretty much straight away with my second child. Any replies much appreciated!

hi there i had the implant in for 15 months and the first couple of months were fine but then i started getting so miserable and snappy i thought it would go away once my body had time to adjust but it just got worse!! i had it taken out on feburary 28th and (according to my dates) got pregnant march 8th! big shock!!! but i think it has really mucked my hormones up as now im very depressed according to the doctor and keep having irrational thoughts i.e im goig to end up on heroin!!! ( i have never taken drugs!!) so overall my experience of the implant is dont have it!!!
