does anyone have any advice for me. I've been on the pill for two years and have recently got engaged. Me and my partner have decided not to have sex til the wedding partly because we're (lapsed) catholics and partly because it's long distance. The wedding is 14 months away and we are not planning children for a couple of years after we get married but i really want to come off the pill before the wedding as 14 months seems like a long time and i hate being on it because there's a history of breast cancer in the family and i dont like the thought of being on the pill for a long time. Would a years break from it give me any benefits or would coming off it to go back on be a really stupid decision?

Wacky periods for almost 2 yrs after going off pill

Postby LillyLilly on Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:36 pm

I went off the pill in Aug 06 and since then my periods have not been normal (7days), they came and went every month, no cycle was the same amount of days, and some cycles were light colored spotting, but no red blood. Some months I even skipped altogether here and there. In March this yr I went to the gynae and she sent me for blood tests, which i couldn't afford, but 2 weeks after that for the first time I had a normal 7 day period, and since then have had 2 more. My cycle lengths are still not the same amount of days. I am just wondering if this means I am finally ovulating? (Im assuming I haven't been for 2 yrs?) Anyone else had anything similair? Been trying to fall preg for 2 yrs so am wondering if it is possible for me to now?

hi, really pleased i found this site, has settled my mind a bit.

i'd been on the pill (cilest for 3yrs and femulen for 6yrs) without any probelms,
i came off the pill in Feb 08 so we could start trying for a baby, i had a very light bleed, only a few days really after i came off the pill and nothing since. no symptons of coming on either!!!
have been trying to get pregnant but all the tests are coming back negative :o(.
have booked an appointment with the nurse for some guidance.
i want to ask a silly question, can you get preganant if you're not having periods, i mean if my eggs are still being produced and released, just not having the bleed bit??????

thanks

Coming off the pill

Postby Sammy2 on Mon Jun 23, 2008 12:43 pm

Hi there, just after a bit of reassurance really. I was on the pill for around 10 years and came off it in February as I got married and we are hoping to try for a baby. Since then my weight has gone up by almost a stone. Also I didn't have a period for 2 months then my cycle was 32 days and now its upto 35 days and still waiting. Have done numerous test but alas no baby to blame the wieght on! Is this normal? I keep getting told coming off the pill does not cause weight gain (usually by the same people who have just commented how fat i'm getting!) but I was weighed in January at my GP and everything was fine so the only thing I can equate it to is the pill.
Any advice would be gratefully received!

the nurse said they could take a year to return!!!!!! she thought it unlikely but if they did i would need to see the doctor about fertility treatment, whatever that might be!!!
i think i'm worrying about it so making it worse and i'm sure when i'm stressed they don't come anyway.
all she could recommend was a healthy diet and exercise!!!!

coming off the pill

Thanks for the site. I've just come off the pill cos I've been on it for 6 years and the doc suggested I should take a break from it. Not really sure what to expect though. I came off it 3 weeks ago and am now getting period-like aches. I can't actually remember what my periods were like before I went on the pill and am kinda nervous about coming off it as I live abroad for most of the year and so can't see a doc easily if anything goes wrong.

I came off Dianette in April to start TTCing, had my withdrawal bleed as normal but nothing since. Not pregnant as we are waiting til everything gets back to 'normal' before we start trying. I was on Marvelon for 10 years before I went on Dianette so I could have nice clear skin for my wedding two years ago (and I did, which was a nice change!).
Quite angry at my GP as I asked him last year if I should come off the pill a few months before we wanted to start trying and he said 'no need, the hormones leave your body straightaway, that's why you can get pregnant from a missed pill'. And stupid me believed him!! I am going to see him next week, will be interesting to hear if he has changed his mind. Really wish I'd read these forums a bit earlier and had some warning!
For any of you struggling with acne since coming off the pill, try going on a low GI diet and keeping a food diary. High GI foods can cause insulin spikes which produce androgens which in turn produce sebum and spots.

coming off the pill

Hi there, since my last post

I have finally had my period. I'm guessing it was like 2 months late. It was a normal period, but I managed to lose weight again due to no appetite. I went from 8.8st to 8.1st in less than a week.

Maybe spots are improving, but still not as clear as it was when I was on the pill. Still don't feel like eating. Im guessing this will change in a couple of days. However this is my normal weight, I think I was binging a lot during the 2 months that my period didn't come.

Hell bells, try not to stress about your period being late. It will come, eventually - from my experience. I've been off the pill since January, and my body is still adjusting!! And its been what, like 6-7 months? I was on the pill for 4 years. I think the longer you are on the pill, the longer it may take for your body to adjust.

Its different for everyone.

If anything go to your doctor/nurse for checkup/advice. :)

Hey - glad someone else is a 'long timers'. I am 21 years on the pill and decided to come off 2 weeks ago. A quick bleed and now I await :-) I have had quite a painful abdomen, both sides, very low and that is the only effect so far. I have read quite a few postings on this site and it seems that it can be anything up to 6 months before periods reurn.

Good luck

coming off the pill acne

Postby furrypaws on Tue Jul 29, 2008 2:12 am

I am 26 and have been on the pill since I was 11 as I suffered with severe acne on my chest and back. Also I suffered from depression.
I have recently been worrying about the effect that taking the pill for so long has had on my body, I have totally gone off sex and if i do have sex I always get a very very very very very bad urine infection which makes me sick for at least three days, the doctors have never linked this to taking the pill and I have been into hospital a couple of times to have invasive tests to find out the cause, it is only from reading these forums that I now know that there can be a link in some women.
Also I have been having such light periods that I was starting to think that maybe I wasn't in working order. I would really like to know if I can have babies, and the doctors say you need to be off the pill for 6 months to find out if you are fertile.
I have been on Dianette for 12 years and more recently Yasmin for 3 years, my skin has been completely clear since I have been on Yasmin and my depression has slowly sorted itself out.
I decided to take a clear break and stopped taking the pill in May this year, I have felt fine and my periods have surprisingly come when they are supposed to, my last period I did experience some period pains, (which I have never had before)
BUT the main thing is that my acne has come back so badly, I have been advised to go on a no dairy, no meat, no sugar, purely vegetable, water and fruit diet, but I have only been on this for a couple of days and I am worried that it isnt going to help.
Has anyone else been through this with the acne problem, I would really like to know what to do, or is it common that it comes back until your body has found it's natural routine and my acne will just go away by itself, I read 1 post saying that it took 2 years to get back to good skin off the pill but this really scares me, I am so upset about my skin, I dont want to go back to wearing polo-necks all year round like I did from the age of 11-22.
I know I am being over dramatic, but I dont want to live if it means living with this acne!!!!
I would love to hear some responses please.

Ive been on Mycrogynon (or however u spell it) lol for 4 years and recently came off it. I had my period which was one week late and rather light. Since then I havent had one at all, its now been 3 week and still nothing. Im really spotty and I get period pains. Like you lot, I though I was pregnant but the test was negative. I guess its just gonna be a case of time until my next one appears. But it does worry the crap out of you though xx
