First of all my congratulations to you Will, and your team, on a very effective product launch and marketing campaign. It's a rare thing for me to follow a sponsored link, but you've really hit the nail on the head with the general UK consumer. Thought your open book approach to giving the reader the whole story from inception through to final product launch was excellent.

I wish you all the best and do hope you succeed. As a one time PM and now Entrepreneur myself I certainly admire your spirit in going for P&G's throat, no pun intended. As you know, we all love an underdog in the UK.

By the way your brand KOS, I always thought it was American having only seen it on the shelf and never investigated it.

I think you probably have no problem convincing those in the age range of 30+ and maybe down to 25 toward your product. But looks like one issue is that many of this market, like myself, still use Mach 3, having laughed at all the rediculous over zelous marketing and advertising from P&G, and scoffed at the rediculous price for blades.

I will have a dabble eventually with your product myself, once I run out of blades, as their's no cost benefit against Mach 3 to make me buy it before I need to. Although I admit I nearly did, which goes against all my normal buying traits.

In the Sainsburys I visited, Bitterne, Southampton, I did not find your product easy to spot.
It was positioned rather unpleasently, (below eye level to the bottom left). FYI.

Perhaps you should also consider to 'Make Shaving British Again', even though Wilky Sword are UK based as well, just a thought.

Best of luck with it.

Hi, thanks for your comments appreciated. This whole 'thread' has been quite a journey, as there have been quite a lot of comments posted, some negative, some good, some great and some unnecessary (the 'industry' reference for example. i founded KoS in 1993, and we were early doors on the web with shave.com, but it's now such an interactive, community based place i'm learning how to develop relations with customers _, as well as shave their lives each morning. We've had overall great feedback with the Azor, and if you'd like to learn a little more about our approach to tackling the razor edged Proctoids who now run Gillette, there's an article in this month's Director magazine, www.Director.co.uk Rambled on enough, shouldn't be emailing before shaving myself, so best wishes, Will

I do not work for the Industry, but I have heard of Kai thru there Old Spice Razor. I currently use a Fusion non power, I have a power but have misplaced it and have lots of non power ones due to Gillette giving them away in Boots with the cartidges. I have a Mach 3, but have yet to do a comparison. I have tried using Wilkinson, but with their Guards it just clogs up the blades as I only shave twice a week, I have a Quatro with a battery in blue and white that I only use for next day shaves and a new black and silver with the trimmer. this is good value as it was on offer for around £2 and is a lot cheaper that most mini trimmers (good for getting rid of ear fluff). I tried to buy an Azor in Sainbury's (York branch) yesterday, but they have run out of stock, they had one line devoted to them rather than the 9 devoted to Fusion. I will give it a go, but will you succeeed where Lynx failed? Is this developed with Kai or in Chesham as your website suggests?

hi 'nick m' - the azor's cartridge technology is what we call 'angle iron' or 'open architecture' rather than stacked (the lynx product was stacked (and wired), as is wilkinson sword (quattro also wired - clogs), bic, supermax, american safety razor etc'. ours, like gillette's ensures a close shave (patented elastomer hinge) and great wash through index (ie ability to clear stubble). you can order a 'Pola' one _ from www.kmishop.com - delivery will be within 2 working days. sincerely, will

Hi Will, I had already seen them for sale, which is where I saw the designed in Chesham tagline. But shipping at £3.50 doesn't look good value. Guess no chance of a freebie then :-(.

an idea

Postby smoothasf on Sun Jul 06, 2008 10:19 am

hi will, just an idea (a little off track).... i use all of your pre-shave products and was wondering why no one in the industry has developed a pre-shave cream with hair removal cream in it? I have very thick hair and put just started putting veet sensitive on my face for 5 minutes before shaving. This doesnt remove the hair just breaks it down enough for a easy shave and because its a hair removal cream actually breaks the hair below the skin so when it growns back its not a sharp, blunt hair end, which in turn means no shaving rash.

just my 2 cents

hi - re freebie handle, send nicky an email via shave.com's customer care website page, tell her i sent you :D in terms of using a chemical product on stubble, this not doable due to chance of it getting into eyes, ouch

Gave it a go. not for me - but nothing ventured and all that! Gillette are the best still when it comes to blade technology as far as I can see and therefore for the sake of £4 a month I'm not fussed. Drink one pint less and I'll save that....

Hi, I cant wait to use the new razor, I entered the competition ages ago but not heard anything back

I use a fusion power at the minute but the shaving software gillette offers is abysmal compared to the kos range, I think so much so that i got all my friends to use the kos software as well :D

Ever since I tried the 'alphagel' I just cannot use anything else although its still a bit over priced £5 for 250ml! worth the investment I think, nothing worse than shave irritation :x

Next time I think im going to buy the funky orange kinexium gel.... it looks good enough to eat lol

Hey Will, you should make more funky luminous coloured gels like the orange one, you know like maybe green, red, yellow or purple, bright eye-catching colours :D

....also maybe in one of your pre-shave face washes you could add a dedicated beard softener?

P.s. Loved the fact that my aftershave kos sensitive balm contains 'Cannabis sativa seed oil'... yay cannabop.. so many uses :D
