Me and my partner are looking at either a two week or three week trip to the UK in July 2008 depending on funds.
I have a nana and relatives in both the Leeds/Huddersfield area plus a cousin living in London who we could stay with for some of the time, however, since we are both active and very spontaneous people, we really don't mind a backpackers hostel as we would be spending most of the time sight seeing and possibly driving around. We don't care about the luxury of accommodation, we just want a cost effective holiday.
We are looking at flying in the Summer. So, need to obviously book in early for any travel and flights of course.
I just have a few questions though.
1) is it best to get an Oyster card??? or should I just use my credit card for any purchases I make while I am over there?
2) what are places WE MUST SEE?
3) is the Emirates a good airline? it sounds like they have a good reputation actually.

Hey Jasmine,
two to three weeks - that does sound great!
Things to see...
- well I totally likedstonehenge (yet you can't get very close nowadays and in summer it is quite crowded.
- I loved he South - Southampton and Bournemouth especially the country side with old cottages, sea wind and wild ponies (quite strange at first side)
- London: well where to start, where to stop.. from shopping, to theatre, the museums, the Tower, all the other buildings...
Hi Jasmine,
I'm not sure about the oyster card.
Places to see, there are sooo many it's difficult to know what to recommend, especially without knowing what interests you.
But number 3) I can answer!
I have travelled extensively all round the world on many different airlines and Emirates were the best by far.
From the actual plane itself; seats, leg room etc, to changing my flights, to the flight attendants, and the food. All were excellent, and I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again.
Whatever you end up doing I hope you have a fabulous time.

Thanx...
Definitely get an Oyster card for travel in London. If you buy at the point of travel you can pay up to £4 for a single, one-way ticket on the underground which is obviously very expensive.
I would just advise you to buy a guide book on amazon. In the UK there are several wonderful cities (London, Edinburgh, Bath, Durham, York, Oxford, Cambridge...) the list goes on and on. The country side is also magnificent - a real plus if you like walking and hiking. If you're interested in culture & heritage then London is second to none - more museums, theatres, galleries etc... than you could ever hope for!
