I dunno, man. I don't seem to have any regrets in the sexual sensitivity department. M@sturbation isn't a challenge at all. Either I glide gently over it (esp the ridge of the glans) or I use a lube of some sort. No biggie.

I was annoyed that he trimmed off as much as he did, and other minor cosmetic gripes. But on the whole, it's great.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have consulted with more surgeons and discussed a slightly different plan. Like a high/tight.

Hi All
I Had my circumcision 9 days ago and so far it is going quite well. I had it done on the NHS in England and this particular urologist did not put any bandages on, it was sutured up and thats it...so far so good.
I was slightly concerned about a small bubble/lump on the inferior aspect of the wound line...however upon reading _ discovered that this was okay as it was most likely vessals which were tied off.

I decided to celebrate on day 7 and go out and have a drink. Must have had a bit too much as when i awoke the part near the frenulum looked scabby and had bled a little. The sutured skin looked like it had come off a little. Also it wasnt as dry as it was before and just around this small area near were frenulum it looks a bit wet and smells a bit. Although it does not look like an open wound, no other signs of infection or pain...wasnt sure if this is normal and something to be expected...

I think low / tight looks best, and provides better STD protection, however I understand it reduces sensitivity compared to high / tight? If there's a big difference in sensitivity between the two styles, might be best to go for the high / tight?

IMO, if you want good protection against STD:

1. Use a condom, or:
2. Abstain.

I'm not versed in how much 'better' a low vs a high is, in terms of STD protection, but I would view any such claims with cynicism. Unless you're in a fluid-bonded relationship, make sure there's latex covering your member.

As for sensitivity, you need to remember that there are nerve endings which are closer to the glans along the shaft skin which are more sensitive near the glans than they are further away. Feel free to discuss with your urologist, but be careful of any sort of dismissive waves of the hand or "you won't really notice it". You've only got one shot at this, you might as well do it right, ie, the way YOU want it done.

Can't comment on whether this is expected, but you'll certainly want to ensure it remains clean. Which will mean constantly putting on fresh/clean underwear. If you want to kick it up a notch, put on some sterile gauze, whether you wrap it around several times or tape it on. Change it a couple times a day, or anytime it appears to be anything less than pristine.

If the scab is weepy, having something sterile draw out the dampness will be helpful.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to apply any topical antibiotic salve/cream, but at the slightest hint of reddishness/tenderness, I would certainly consider doing so. Definitely check in with your surgeon at the slightest hint of things going sub-optimally.

I haven't consulted a doctor yet (I'm just hoping it won't take too long to set up an appointment and procedure). I have a slight case of phimosis. By that I mean the head of the penis can usually just escape the skin but is difficult to pull back and just impractical to sustain (the pain is unbearable).

I read almost all the posts and they were all extremely helpful -- seriously, these two pages answered more questions than the past years of research.

However, I'm wondering if OHIP will cover it. And if not, how much would the procedure cost? Either way, I'm getting the procedure done. The skin is a burden I've had to bear all my life and even stretching or a small cut would seem practical to me, at least not to my penis.

I'm also wondering if there are age requirements for the operation (a la what age can it be done, does it require parental conscent). And do you know what the operation would entail? Would I be unconscience? And what exactly are these high/short (etc.) variations? Do you have images to show the difference?

But you're convinced you need a circumcision and not a dorsal slit? Just wondering.

I mean, I think circumcisions are great, but that doesn't mean you have to get one.

I'd be surprised if OHIP didn't cover it. It's not like you're looking to get a boobjob.

(For the curious: OHIP stopped funding breast augmentations for purely cosmetic reasons back in the 1980's after it was called into question.)

I can't comment on the age of consent thing, but I can see where you're coming from. To my knowledge, you would have to be 18 to get it done without your parents even knowing about it, but I could be wrong.

Does Sue Johanssen still run that radio sex advice show up there? Maybe you could call in and ask about your concerns? If that's awkward at best, then maybe she has a website where you can pose your questions?

Or (thinking back to what Sue would often say), can you just go to your family doc, giving an excuse that you feel sick, or that you've hurt your shoulder or some such? And then once in with just the doc, as him about some of your concerns, such as OHIP coverage, privacy (from parents) and such.

If push comes to shove, you may need to tell your parents (or parent, if you're living with just the one) and explain that it's embarrassing to talk about, etc. Either that, or wait until you're 18, which would be the worst case scenario.

Oh and yes, they put you under a general anaesthetic. Or at least I was when I had mine done. But do ask your surgeon prior to getting it done (and don't eat or drink after 10pm the night before your surgery).

I still remember coming out from the anaesthesia post-op. I vaguely remember laying on my side and being asked to urinate into one of those bottle thingies which doesn't require doing anything more than laying on your side and putting your penis inside it and letting go. That, and the overwhelming desire to go back to sleep (but they won't let you do that, oh no, it's "wake up, wake up". )

I don't think this'll be much help, but:

- I'm in America
- I've had it done
- I'm in the Dallas area
- I had mine done in Canada almost 20 years ago

Don't know what the costs are, sorry.

Why not call a couple of urologists' offices and get approximate quotes?
