Does anyone know what locking earrings are and if they can be bought. I think that I read something about such a thing a long time ago but I have never come across anything that actually locks in place. I assume that, if available, they are for pierced ears.

There are several types of "locking" earrings available today, but they are designed so the person wearing them can remove them whenever they want. The locking feature usually consists of a loop or hook to which the wire that passes through the ear is fastened so the earrings will not fall off and become lost. This feature is usually found only on expensive earrings.

The only earrings I have ever seen that were designed to prevent the person wearing them from removing them are for babies and small children. They are stud earrings with backs that have to be pinched or turned in a certain way to remove them. The idea is that the baby or very young girl will not be able to maneuver the back in such a way that it can come off so the earring could come out and be lost of possibly swallowed, but an adult will not have any difficulty removing them.

For more infomration you may want to go to Google and search for "locking earrings."

Not sure what you are looking for, however, CBR's have a ball that closes the earring, which makes it somewhat "locked". They also have "seamless" hoop earrings.

You can find these type of earrings at most jewerly shops as well as any place that does body piercing.

I wear CBR's in my lobes all the time, don't have to worry about taking them out at night, or losing them.

A 'segment ring' of 10 ga or more can only be fitted or removed with ring-opening pliers. Is that what you meant?

I don't know. What is 10 ga? I'm thinking of earrings that can't easily be removed by the person wearing them but which are silver or gold, maybe hoops.

10 ga (10 gauge) is 0.102 inch or 2.588 mm diameter wire. most earrings have posts that are 16 or 18 gauge. The higher the gauge number, the thinner the wire.

The earrings you are talking about are not standard earrings but are much thicker and would stretch the holes. Are there any other type of locking earrings that have stems (or are wire hoops) that are the same as normal earrings?
