I used to have scary dreams about falling from great heights, to the point I would wake up almost screaming. Someone told me what falling meant, but I have forgotten. I always landed in water. I have been thrown into a swimming pool fully clothed, twice, as a joke, maybe there was a symbol in that. I remember having a fear of it happening, as they told me I was going in hours before they did it. My scary dream happened about a couple of years after my 'birthday treat'.
One day I sat on a harbour wall watching a ferry come in. I looked over the edge as I sat there, leaning almost far enough over I almost fell into the sea. I was about 30 feet above the water
I never had that scary dream again! It seemed to cancel it out. |

I was once told that if you are falling in a dream and you hit the bottom then you die in your sleep.
Can anyone shed any light on this - because if you die when you hit the bottom, who the hell discovered this. Cos if they had dreamt it then they would be dead anyway, so they couldn't tell anyone, and if someone else dreamt it and died then no-one would have known what they were dreaming anyway.
Even though it sounds like a load of S*** that someone has made up - I never hit the floor when I dream about falling? |

I have heard this as well and I assure you that it is bullshit. I have fallen, even jumped thousands of feet in dreams and landed on my feet like spiderman. Usually in these dreams I am trying to get away from someone evil. |

| Ah - but that's "landing", not "hitting the bottom". They're not quite the same thing ... |

| Falling dreams or the sensation of falling usually happen in the first stages of sleep. The jerking of the body which often accompanies them is a mechanism to quickly bring you back to alertness. I had this several times only last night. |

Many people have dreamed that they have hit bottom in a fall and they are still alive to tell the story! Falling is a common theme, which often indicates that in your real life you are feeling a little out of control and insecure. You may be experiencing a lack of support and grounding. In your waking life you may be feeling unsupported, unsafe or weighed down. The circumstances of the fall in the dream are important to notice. Were you pushed or did you jump willingly? Could it point to a situation in real life where you are trying to escape something, someone or a situation that you either cannot cope with or don't wish to face?
The place of falling is also important. If you are ina falling dream, do you clutch onto something to break your fall or do you close your eyes and fall direclty below? If you can control your landing in a fall and perhaps hqave a soft landing, it could mean that your crisis in real life might not be as difficult as you imagined.
The sensation of falling in your dream is one of the most common dreams and one that we all have at some stage in our lives, usually at a time when we are feeling insecure and lacking in confidence. It's a typical anxiety dream that suggests our sense that we have no control. It has been interpreted as a dream of sexual surrender, where the fall and landing symbolise sexual intersourse. It also stands for the fear of failing - whethe through 'falling into temptation', 'falling from grace' or letting ourselves and other people down'. Falling is also associated with isolation and the need to feel supported, especially if the dreamer is feeling misunderstood or not accepted for who he or she is. |
