Kids ear stretching

Hello, I will get right to the point, im a middle aged man bringing up a daughter on my own without a partner to help. Soon it is my daughters 11th birthday and unfortunately she wants to get her ears stretched. I half expected her to want her belly button pierced or what not like most her friends but i didn’t expect this. I have looked up what i can on the internet but feel i am still ill informed on the subject. As i understand it she wants plugs, which stretch the earlobes after her holes have been made bigger by a professional.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how big can the holes get before they cant close up again? An advice would be appreciated or any way to convince her to get her belly button pierced instead or something, as this would not be so permanent.

I think your best bet would be to visit a body piercing studio local to you and ask the staff there for some advice on ear stretching. They would be able to explain everything that's involved. They might think that she's a bit too young to be starting stretching. Where did she get her ideas for ear plugs from?

Anyway, assuming that your daughter's ears were initially pierced using "standard" studs of 1.2 mm gauge she can stretch up to 2.4 mm as a "first stage". However it takes many months of "sittings" to progressively enlarge the holes by using a taper pin and inserting larger gauge jewellery each time until the desired size is reached. Is your daughter really prepared to put in the time and committment to stay the course?

I certainly hope she doesn't go for a navel piercing. She is, at 11, just a bit too young and no reputable studio would pierce her. She would have to wait until she was 13/14 at the earliest.

How big you can stretch your ears and still go back to normal depends on how elastic your lobes are, how big your lobes are, what technique you use, how well you look after your lobes and such. As a rule of thumb if you want your ears to go back to "normal" dont go bigger than 8mm, however there at exceptions, people have been known to go as large as 18mm when using certain techniques and still go back to normal(although this is not usual, normaly such large sizes would merely shrink that totally close up).

I first stretched my ears when i was 14 and it taught me so much about how my body worked, peoples bias's; it really forced me to grow up and i would not deny your child of this as its a truly valid life experience which will hopefully make her(like it did me) into a more open minded and happier person.

hi, you can stretch your ears rite up to 2-0ga and it will go back to normal size again, it really just depends on the body you have and how well you heal. I think it's really cool that your daughter is wanting to get her ears stretched, it's different and unique, i understand that you supporting her on her discission that too is really cool...i agree you should take her to a professional studio to check out what they have to say about the whole thing, you never know they might not let her get it done but at the end of the day if she has thought up that idea then maybe you should just let her go ahead with it, it is her body and she will only have herself to blame if she doesn't like it in the end. Oh and on the single father thing that is amazing i totally respect you.

Thank you for your posts everyone. It is her birthday today and so we went to a piercing studio in the city to ask about it. They were very helpful and we booked an appointment for Monday after school to stretch her ears a mm or so and show her what to do. i would have let her today and she wanted too but shes got friends around tonight because its her birthday and it wont be nice on her if her ears are in pain. As i understand they use a cone shaped rod to do it but i should understand more Monday, although my daughter seems to understand better. I have decided with my daughter that she can go up to a 6g and i will pay for all the taper things, jewellery/plugs and a load of sea salt. I have decided on the 6g size because then she can wear plugs for several months and can decide if she likes them and wants them bigger.

6 gauge is about 4 mm. She could definatly go larger without having to worry about if the holes will close in the future, but if she is happy with 6 gauge there is no sence going larger

Tryfor all your stretching equipment and plugs etc they are very cheap and sell good quality stuff. ive just started stretching now.

Well this answer may come a bit late but I dont know maybe it will help you or someone else still. I'm 15 and my ears are stretched to 00 gauge. I originally started and only stretched to about a 2 mm...12 gauge. I found that after a wghilke it got to looks mall and I went up. I think that if your daughter wants to do this you should let her, as it is a great expierience, but you should also explain to her the importance of doing it right.

you don't need professional sittings to get them stretched and it doesn't take ages
but plasic tapers - they are available in a range of sizes. then at each size fit them with a metal hottow tunnel - it will apply just enough weight to keep stretching them.

my initial ear piercings measured 1mm.
i went up to 10mm in 10 days - one size a day, the up to 16 mm in 18 days - 10-16 one size very 3 days.

it can hurt but its very safe, quick, easy and fun thing to do

i did mine by myself. never had any problems with them, only used a pro for the initial piercings, and they're still at 16 mm

Yeh i had mine at an inch and idk they closed up but it depends on the person i wouldnt let her go past a size 2

sir your daughter can go up to 5/8s which is pretty big and itll eventually grow up but by all means do not skip a size or the skin in the ear will rip which will cause it to bleed badly which will take it more time to heal so what id do is take the time to go up slowly

She's 26 now, graduated with her Masters and got turned down for her dream job. She's convinced it was because of her ears. Doesn't seem fair, but one of life's lessons. Think about what you want your future to be before you reshape your body. Keep it under a t-shirt.

I have recently stretched my ears and i have to say i didnt think it was a big deal. The point of no return is 1cm. But if she wants it then she has to be patient...... it will take a while to stretch and she dosent want to rip her ear. Why dont you get her some fake plugs then she can look like her ears are stretched but she can wait till shes older and more informed on the subject before she actually does it.
