Failed my driving test yesterday

This is fact examiners can only pass so many if they have had a bad day with so many passing, there will always be one unlucky person that has driven perfect. At the end of the test when the examiner is counting all the faults he will turn a minor into an S and fail the person for something small amd not stupid.

You sound like one of them smart lucky bimbo's that passed her driving test first time, There are some very good drivers out there only to when it comes to taking the test it go's tits up for stupid little things. I have seen people just like you that have it all on a plate, life is so easy!!!! but don't know how to drive, they hit the curb on there test but still passed because the examiner got his leg over the night before.

I'd be no good at that.
I've tried to teach a few people to drive and not been much good at it.
My problem is that I try to teach them to drive as opposed to teaching them to pass the test. There's no substitute for an experienced instructor who knows what the examiner is looking for. The problem with most drivers is that they look at the driving test as the end of their learning. It should be the starting point to build on the minimal standards they've got. Motorways, night driving, unlit roads, national speed limits and bad weather are things that most newly qualified drivers could never have seen. They pass their test in a small low powered car and are then licenced to drive far more demanding vehicles without an instructor.
To all those who are having trouble passing the test, I ask you to look at your driving carefully. Think about what you are doing in a car. Watch what others are doing and ask yourself why and are they doing it the best way. Try to understand how a car behaves and why it reacts the way it does to your controls. This is particularly usefull when learning how to reverse and position your car. Always try to improve. That way you probably will. We all start somewhere. I've made mistakes as has every driver. On my first lesson, I struggled to drive smoothly and felt on my limit at 55 mph. I practised and learned. I'm still learning and (hopefully) not making as many mistakes.
Aim not just to pass the test but to exceed it and go on from there. You will enjoy the freedom and the driving for what it is.

I do agree with you only when we pass the driving test we then learn how to drive. I have been driving for 21 years and still like everyone have the occasional obstacle, yes were all learners because we learn somthing new every day. This is why we must give new drivers who had more than there fair share of driving tests a chance to build there confidence.

I very much hope you read this message, I have just passed my Driving Test. I can't beleave it. This was harder for me than giving birth!! I have done the test god knows how many times but got there in the end, This was a war that has gone on for 5 years. I just want to say to any one out there who is finding it impossible to pass it just keep going just like did your day will also come. again Danielle thanks for your suport.

I am so down... today I failed my road test for the 3rd time.. took 1st astoria I totally panic did nothing right , second time red hook failed by ten points tried correcting parking and touch side walk... and today cunningham failed by 15 points...turn left from middle lane..

Feel discouraged and stupid,, not sure I should continue....

The UK Practical Test is nothing but a money making scheme. Safe driving plays no part in the test, which is designed to allow the examiners to fail candidates at will. How many times has anyone seen an experienced driver back around a corner at a snail's pace whilst staying 25 inches from the kerb and looking in all directions two dozen times? Even the police don't do such nonsense. But if the test were only to evaluate safe driving, more people would pass and the DSA, along with the little cottage industry of Driving Instructors, would no longer be such lucrative businesses. By the way, I passed my test on the first try with no lessons (foreign license), so this post is not written out of bitterness over my own failure. It's just that I'm disgusted by what I consider to be a travesty of driving evaluations.

I’m seventeen and I’ve been seventeen since January. Where I live most people have their license by the time they are seventeen and everybody I know has passed the test on their first attempt. I went to take the test today, and I was so sure that I would pass because I knew my stuff really well, and I thought I was ready. I was pretty confident. But then when I got there my examiner was a very grumpy older man, and I was so unnerved by his unfriendliness that I panicked a little bit, and when I got into the small space they provided to do the 3-point turn, I went drove over the curve and failed.
I’m so embarrassed because I was so ready to have my license, and I had made plans to take my friends out this weekend to celebrate. I just don’t know what I’ll say to everybody. I was, and still am, crushed.

I failed my road test and felt miserable. I failed because I was cut off but the person said I failed to yield to traffic. go figure...

I'm really astounded that some people are saying "I've failed my 4th, (or more) test"

If you can't pass on the third attempt then you shouldn't be on the road at all as far as I'm concerned.

Nobody is ever taught to drive by driving instructors, they're taught to pass a 45 minute driving test which is not the same as driving on the roads day in day out.

Someone who has had say 20 lessons at an hour per lesson has just 20 hours driving experience before taking their test and possibly passing it because the examiner is in a good mood or might be willing to overlook a couple of minor "faults"

Pilots have to have several hundred hours flying experience before they're allowed near a plane alone and nobody in their right mind would jump onto a super-bike and ride off into the distance gunning the engine as they go, red lining with every gear change without years of experience first.

The driving test is a complete and total joke, it is nothing more than a money making scam purported by a system of fools who claim to want safer roads.

Perhaps this is why we have a 1 in 10 chance of being involved in an accident with an "unqualified" or uninsured driver. Flip that on its head and this means 9 times out of 10 we'll have an accident with a fully "qualified" driver so proportionately 'learner drivers' pose less risk than full license holders.

Driving instruction in the UK and the driving test doesn't cover motorway or dual carriage way driving, it doesn't cover night time driving, it doesn't cover driving in hazardous conditions such as snow, ice and fog.

What use is a test that doesn't cover all the road conditions we encounter every day on the roads? Bad weather such as heavy rain or fog, slippery road surfaces, etc.

It seems to be of no use what so ever as no matter what the road conditions, people take tests every day and then it's for only 45 minutes. So an 18-year-old passing their test being able to drive until their 70 has decades of driving experience ahead of them with no re-test or way of testing their abilities again unless they're ordered by a court to re-take the driving test.

I've got 22 years of experience under my belt riding bikes and about 10 years of experience as a car driver, but I'm still learning new things and encountering new situations on the road all the time.

The test should be scrapped and people should be made to drive at their own risk. If they were personally responsible for replacing/repairing their car as well as the car/bike of who they cause an accident with then perhaps a lot of people would be more careful on the road.

The fact some people have a full license and are fully insured causes complacency. It's OK because the insurance will take care of everything. What a shame a full license and insurance can't replace the child/mother/father/son/whatever killed in the an accident or put right the fact they're crippled for the rest of their lives just because someone couldn't be bothered to look properly or use the same amount of careful driving and observation they used on their driving test when they passed.

Reading all these tales of failure makes me wonder about some peoples ability to drive.

How would anyone here feel if they went into hospital to find the doctor who's about to treat them only passed his exams after the tenth attempt?

Provided he's passed his exams now and demonstrated that he has the required knowledge and competence, why should I care how long it took him to reach that standard.

Ditto drivers. If they've failed to show, under exam conditions, that they have teh required skills and competence, then they fail. Once they have shown the required skills and competence, they pass. What difference does it make how long it took them to show this, and how many attempts?

Some people go to pieces under exam conditions - simple fact.

We all make mistakes when we drive, every time. I passed my test (first time - thanks for asking) over 20 years ago. But I still know that I sometimes make errors, and find myself thinking "that was silly" or "I'm lucky there wasn't somebody coming the other way just then". We all do it. And for the most part, we get away with it. Although from time to time there IS someone coming the other way, and we don't get away with it.

Make one of those sort of mistakes in your test and you will fail - even if there is nothing coming the other way.
