How to figure out a rising sign.

It doesn't always work but if I know the signs of someone's last girl or boy friends, I can usually figure it out. Even just by going by thier friends signs.
My friend is a gemini rising and although a water sign almost always dates air signs and geminis.
Someone else I know has a lot of capricorn in him. He is a fire sign, Sagittarius but with a Libra rising. He tends to do best with, working and his marriage, with an air sign with an earth rising.

The rising sign I think tell more of who we should be with, but I've heard the moon makes a big differenct too.
