Hi I just gave birth to a baby, I feel that I need to wear diapers or plastic pants. As I keep wetting myself when I laugh or cough or sneeze, even running to the bus stop, I am so scared I want to stop wetting myself and dont know what to do. Help me please I need advice from mothers. Diapers or are plastic pants better.

Just ignore the first reply.

What you are suffering from is stress incontinence which is very common after childbrth, so much so, I am surprised it wasn't mentioned to you at the time. Pelvic floor excerices in almost all cases erradicate it. Look at:-

http://www.depend.com/uk

then select 'bladder weakness' and Pelvic floor exercises

Hi,
I have worn plastic pants for a long while because of slight leaks when coughing, laughing running etc.
I wear over my regular underwear usuually but if I am out for the day I use a pad in the plastic pants.

amen to pelvic floor exercises.

if this alone doesn't work though you should see your GP who can refer you to an obstetric physio, or ask your health visitor.

my sister had a problem like this-you ask if you should wear an adult diaper- my sister wore diapers for about 2 weeks i think it was- after 2 weeks so stopped wetting so she came out of the diapers and that was it.

Try using TENA products- www.tena.co.uk
You can improve your pelvic floor strength by doing pelvic floor exercises- go to www.corewellness.co.uk to receive your free DVD. The exercises are clinically proven to cure stress urinary incontinence in up to 70% of women. This type of bladder weakness is very common in women who have just given birth. 1 in 4 women experience bladder weakness so you're not alone!

I wouldn't wear an adult nappy as such, as they're very absorbent and rather thick and bulky. (Plus when you do go to the loo you must untape them.) Depending on how much you actually wet when you do wet, I would say go for some adult pull-ups like Tena Pants Discreet (in all the chemists) or Attends pull-ups 5 (mail order from the Attends website.) If these are not absorbent enough the same companies make more absorbent pull-ups.

I have suffered from this problem for years and done all the exercises. Now I either wear Tena Pants Discreet or Lille Pads in my knickers. If I am going on a long journey I tend to wear plastic pants over my ordinary knickers.

If you bedwet or at home, adult terry towelling nappies and plastic pants may be better. They are an extra absorbent version than ones for babies. Warning- you might find these baby-like when you're changing or fastening them wet/dry but weighs up in comfort, softness and economical terms. Also good for dermatological reasons.
