I find wearing a seat belt very uncomfortable, so I never bother wearing mine when I'm driving, I reckon that's my choice, I'm harming no one else by my actions.

As for my own safety, there are pros and cons for wearing seat belts or not. There are numerous cases of drivers trapped in cars, due to wearing seatbelts after a collision, and many drivers also suffering serious chest / abdominal injuries.

Many police turn a blind eye to drivers not wearing a seat belt, or pull them over and give them a warning. Two coppers the other day pulled me up though and treated me like S***.

I was on the way home from work when they stopped me. They kept me for at least 10 minutes in their car, asking all the usual shite questions, then cautioned me.

I'm not arsed about the poxy £30 fine, but reckon it's just a money making excerise by the police this seat belt policy.

It's the principle that pisses me off more than anything regarding the seat belt issue, as I said it should be my choice, if go flying through a windscreen cos I wasn't wearing one, then I've no one else to blame.

At the end of the day the law makers/police couldn't give a S*** about my welfare, they're just out to make a fast/easy buck.

Nobody should have to scrape the remains of your body off the street because of your 'choice' not to wear a seatbelt. Would you rather be uncomfortable or dead?

I've seen just as many bad accidents with people wearing seatbelts along with people who don't. Seatbelts may stop minor crashes and help support you, but they don't exactly do jack for a serious crash (40+mph). Many crashes that are severe, the belts become a hazard cause they get stuck and lock you in the car when you NEED to escape.

But they will stop you from flying through the windshield. Not wearing a seatbelt is just stupid. I think the OP should use other methods of transport if they do not want to wear a seatbelt.

They can stop you from going through the windsheild, but they don't stop you from smacking your head off it extremely hard which can be worse in a way. Then you are stuck inside the car, near unconcious, possible concussion, bleeding profusely. Now, airbags mixed with seatbelts is something else and is more effective used together.

Airbags are incredibly dangerous. Look seatbelts have been proven to save lives. Basically if you don't want to wear a seatbelt it's your own stupid fault. I just hope you are never in an incident when you need to use one.

Airbags have a LOT better test results then seatbelts. When the two are put together, you have better results . . .

What? Airbags are much more likely to kill than seatbelts. Please read some facts.

I suspect that Exodus is American hence a slightly different perspective. Personally I agree with the OP, if you don't want to wear a seat belt and you are in the front seat that should be your own choice. However I think that wearing seat belts in the back should be rigidly enforced because in the event of a bad accident there is a good chance that you're going to kill the person in front of you along with yourself.

Not wearing a seatbelt is just plain stupid. If you decide not to wear a seatbelt you are just plain stupid too. Simple as that.
