as above and also to track your pc down in cyber space
control them with http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
and run ccleaner or equivelant after browsing sessions to eliminate the nasty ones ,if you get a lot of trojan trouble, cookies from rogue sites could be to blame (ad trackers etc )
both the above programmes should stop this
ie5 files are were they lurk

If you compared cookies to reading a book.. cookies are sort of like you using a highlighter, but a lot more than that...
Some cookies are good, some are bad...
Too many cookies stored in your browser can make your browser mess up...
With some browsers you can pick the cookies you want your computer to block... Without cookies the Internet doesn't work in your computer.. They are sort of like keys, tags, lamp posts, and road signs...
Some advanced cookies are called "trojans".. In combo with keystrokers, they can spy on your computer, and send your word files to a spy's computer... They are like "wannabe email addresses", and links... |

Cookies are used by most websites to track visitors. What I mean by track is they are little text files which hold limited information about you, this information depends upon the site you visit. For example if you visit an _ shopping site, it may remember what you entered into your wish list, or remember what you added to the basket but did not check out.
By disabling you often stop websites working, or you will have to keep retyping information in. Most cookies are completely safe and will not harm your PC or leak personal information. However they can easily be deleted via your browsers tools. (Tools/Options in most cases) |

I see "cookies" like they're kind of a little portable electronic door that websites can install into your computer, so they can wire you their electronic presentations...
And sort of like solo pingpong.. in which you send the ball out, through a cookie doorway, into a chocolate room, and it bounces back with a little chocolate from bouncing in your chocolate computer, and the website tastes the chocolate, and sends a whole cake back to your computer... And you taste it, and maybe eat some.. and save some for later, and toss the rest in the trash...
It's like your computer is point A.. The website is point B.. B shows A what it's got.. A tells B what it wants.. and B sends some C to A... Simple as ABC...
In the case of an Internet virus.. B sends some C to A, with some Z in it...
is why we use Z-stopper softwares to keep A clean and healthy, for when B's are stinging people in the A's... |

Nice reply but yes cookies are storing information in your temporary internet files but not that websites load faster but for other purposes for example. When you login to this forum a new cookie is created and if you select remember my password option than your password is also saved in the cookie (most software do not store them as plain-text instead it used hashed (encryption) this board used PhpBB and PhpBB uses the MD5 digest algorithm to encrypt the password.. so your passwords are safe.

Cookies may be used for trojans but they cant work as trojans or so called keyloggers. |
