i found out i was pregnant just before xmas. but miscarried 4 days later. i was then advised to wait at least one month, tho pref' two, before trying again.
however, i have just found out i am pregnant again, i did not have a period since the miscarriage, in fact, i'm not sure how i've got pregnant!! (aside from the obvious, but we used protection).
basically, i'm worried. will this really have an effect on this pregnancy, are there increased risks, what is the likelyhood of another miscarraige at this point, considering i had a miscarriage 5/6 weeks ago.
does anyone know anything about it? have a dr appointment booked but i can't get in for another week. |

Were you far along in the pregnancy when you miscarried? Did you have to have a D&C or did you have other complications with the miscarriage?
I've heard from alot of women who have gotten pregnant directly after a miscarriage and have had problem free pregnancies and given birth to healthy babies. Personally I don't think you would get pregnant if your body was not ready for it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. For sure talk to your doctor about it and get things checked out. I understand the worry about another possible miscarriage since you've already been through one.
If you're interested in also getting information from another forum, here's a link to PAM (pregnancy after miscarriage):

Good luck to you and congratulations! |

i was 4 weeks gone when i miscarried, i'd just found out, and no i didn't have to have a d and c luckily, the scan said everything had come away on it's own.
it was actually my second miscarriage, i had one yrs ago, i have two daughters since then, then this miscariage and now i'm pregnant again. it's all been such a whirlwind.
thanx for the congratulations, i'm just hoping for the best now. and i hope to persuade my dr to let me have a six week scan. i couldn't wait until 12 weeks to know if everything was still there and growing.
thanx for the link also, wil check that out too |

| Is there a possibility that you might have been pregnant with twins and only lost one?? I've heard of that happening and actually know someone who that happened to. |

I agree with Cherlye
I had a scan at 7 weeks because I started to bleed (had a previous MC too) The scan was an internal one at that early stage and it showed the sack and a tiny tiny white blob in the middle which was the heartbeat. They couldn't make any promises that the pregnancy would last at that stage but said everything looked good so far. Here I am now at 39 weeks waiting to pop out my pip .. so Good Luck and Congrats. |

i hear what you're saying, but the scan was clear and i had a negative test at the early pregnancy assement place, so i'm pretty sure this is a new pregnancy.
i'm just hoping we don't get upset again. |

Hi Juicy Lucy (and everyone!)
I'm really pleased that you've got pregnant again! I'm very interested in your story 'cos I miscarried at 6 weeks. It started on New Years Eve, then the bleeding stopped after about 4-5 days, but I've been alternating between spotting and nasty clots ever since - ie over three weeks later. I spoke to the doc today (over the phone 'cos I couldn't get an actual appointment until 30th Jan!) and she said that because it was an early mc and I wasn't cramping or bleeding heavily all the time I wouldn't need a scan or d&c unless a pregnancy test showed up positive. Instead she prescribed norethisterone - at about twice the dosage it says to take in the patient info leaflet - and said that once the five days were up I'd have a proper period.
Did you bleed much? Why did your doc send you for a scan?
I'm confused and anxious - if there's dead tissue inside me I want it out, like, NOW! |

the first time i miscarried at 7 weeks. i had a very bad pain in my left side
only, and the dr was concerned it was ectopic, so i had the scan, and it wasn't but my baby wasn't the size it should have been, basically it had died 4 weeks before. i bled for 6 weeks after that.
this time, i started to bleed quite heavy staright away, but only bled for 7 days. i didn't have a scan then, i had one a couple of weeks later when the baby would have been 6 weeks, and they would have seen a heart beat if things were ok. but there was nothing there.
i'm totally understand you must be really concerned. is there any chance you can speak to another dr... or get advice from the family planning. if you're not happy, i think you should kick up a bit of a fuss. i can't understand why they wouldn't check you out to make sure things have come away properly, the first time i think i had a total of 4 scans to monitor the progress over those 6 weeks.
i hope that helps at least some.... |

just thought i'd update. i went to the dr who informed me i may not actually be pregnant at all. i may have a molar pregnancy- a bit of after birth left after the miscarrige that has continued to grow, and produce the hcg hormone which would show up on a test and cause my morning sickness.
since then things have turned into a complete nightmare. the only way is to know is to have a scan, my dr tried to get me one at 8 weeks, but the hospital refused. i complained and said i wanted a scan, and was refered to a consultant, who would see me (as an urgent appointment ) in april! i have complained and foound another hospital who will sacn within 2 days of making the appointment if my dr refers me. which is proving very difficult to get, as his secretaryis VERY put out that i would take matters into my own hands, and is being difficult.
i'm hoping to speak to my gp this afternoon (his secretary is in a meeting) and with luck i'll get a scan early next week, but i've had to fight so hard so far, it's not looking likely.
all i want to find out at this stage (9 weeks preg) is whether or not i actually have a baby inside me, or this molar thing that has a 20% chance of turning cancerous!!!
what is going on with the NHS! |

| OMG ... how terrible i bet you are going mentally insane, how can they just leave u until a 12 wk scan to confirm if u r pregnant or not, i find tht really disturbing that ur hospital doesn't find it a priority, after all how long do scans actually take, the receponist should take 5 mins and put her self in ur shoes, how would she react if she was u ... i hope u get an app b4 12wks, also i hope its good news wen u go, i will keep my fingers crossed for u x |

awww thank you!
it's a total nightmare... have phoned gp, but was not able to get access to him and the receptionist got the nurse (who knows nothing at all of the situation) to phone me back. had to breifly explain it to her, but i know she didn't understand... she is now going to speak to the dr for me. all i need him to do is phone the number i gave him and comfirm i can go! but i still have to wait a and see what happens, i have to phone back just before surgery closes to see if he has done it! just when you think things can't get worse they do!
my parents are saying they'll pay for me to have the scan privately, but i don't believe it's up to them to provide what i need. especially as the womens hosptial has already agreed to do and is just waiting for a referal of my gp!

| Can't you just walk-in to an early pregnancy clinic (usually at your local hospital) I did at 7 weeks pregnant without any appointment - they scan you there and then? Look up your local one on the net. Good luck. |

Oh my god, what a horror story! I can't believe this. How could they make you wait so long? It's ridiculous. And your doc needs to get off his backside and make the phonecall!
I hope you get your scan quickly - I couldn't imagine the agony of not knowing if I'm pregnant or not. Yet another example of how cruel our bodies can be.
Good luck - I'll be thinking of you |
