Hello, I have mid length naturally mid to dark brown hair and I desperately want to go blonde. My hairdresser suggested I start by having loads of highlights through the top and sides and then if I liked it, have an all over colour, however when I went back she said she wouldnt dye it blonde because the underneath was a different colour to the highlights and obviously the roots, and that it wouldn't lift evenly.
I have also tried the home colouring method using 'nice n easy' but this didnt lift it any where near enough, just giving me a reddish blonde.
Surely it cant be that hard to go from brunette to blonde, I would love to hear how its done.
this isn't your fault, i think your hair dresser is a dickhead, LOL.
what you should do when you are naturally brown, is lighten the whole head a little, each time, go back and lighten it a little more, you do this so your hair doesn't dry out. i'm a hair dresser, and i've seen some tradgic hair from people trying to be blonde, they just overload it in one go, which is totally bad for the hair!
what i suggest you do is, go to a different hair dresser, tell them to dye it all light brown, then, in a week or so, go back, and ask for a tint, that lightens it a little more, and keep going back to you get the colour you want!
MAKE SURE you use deep conditioning treatments every week, this will obviously stop the hair from drying out, also, use shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair.
Get yourself to a proper haiar dresser I am always changing the colour of mine including some very dodgy home jobs and when ever they went wrong my hairdresser sorted them out, now I leave them to her and just tell her the colour and highlights I want and she does it
