ONE thing I never thought I’d see was GWYNETH PALTROW performing with hip-hop legend JAY-Z.
It’s like BUCKS FIZZ getting up to gig with LED ZEPPELIN.
But on Wednesday night I witnessed Lil’ Gwyn hit the stage to belt out brilliant vocals with the Brooklyn-born rapper.
I revealed earlier this year that the Oscar-winning mum-of-two had been recording with top dance producer WILLIAM ORBIT at his London studio.
And going by her efforts on stage, there’s no doubt she could carve out a successful singing career.
Jay-Z was an hour into his show at the Royal Albert Hall when Gwyn crept on unannounced in a bling-free black outfit.
It took the crowd a while to cotton on to who she was, but when they did, she went down a storm.
The Hollywood star’s appearance was a total shock in a night full of surprise special guest performers.
Gwyn’s hubby, COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN, left his seat with pals including band mate JONNY BUCKLAND to play piano on one track and sing on another.
Chris has been working with Jay-Z on his new album Kingdom Come, out in November.
The rapper’s stunning missus BEYONCE KNOWLES and fellow hip-hop star NAS each did a turn too.
The show, part of his Global Express World Tour, was easily up there with MADONNA and Live8.
Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella mogul Jay-Z, real name SHAWN CARTER, gave a masterclass in performance. Backed by a 30-piece orchestra and DJs, the hip-hop king swaggered around the stage like a man born to perform in a royal arena.
And then there was the aftershow party at top club Movida. PUSSYCAT DOLLS star CARMIT BUCHAR and footballers SOL CAMPBELL and EDGAR DAVIDS were VIP guests.
Chris and Gwyn ditched their macrobiotic diets to knock back red wine and grub including lobster cocktail and truffle mash, washed down with Dom Perignon bubbly.
Oddly, the couple left separately at 2.30am, followed later by Jay-Z and Beyonce in their Rolls-Royce.
Hats — or baseball caps — off to the rap guru. From start to finish, it was a perfect lesson in how global music stars should behave.
Jay-Z, you are welcome back anytime. |

The situation Rizza has highlighted is indeed Bizzaro.
Chris Martin makes me want to cut my ears off. Jay-Z is hit and miss, but very accomplished when he isn't selling whatever sweatshop crap he is at whatever time, Nas is very talented but lacks continuity, Kelis is 'kin gorgeous and will have my babies (doubtful, but a twit can dream). |
