it sounds like you need a new fan but if your computer is running slow you should prob. try to use a virus scan to see if their is any spy ware or viruses on your computer

most PCs built anytime recently have fan controllers built into the mainboard that will speed up or slow down the HSF (heatsink fan) dependant on the workload of your CPU. Because this controller is usually integrated into the CMOS (a chip inside your computer that tells your computer how to run) - itd be very unlikely that its spyware or any form of grayware or virus...

whats more likely is the website youre going to is causing your system to become unstable, its quite frequent that if theres a bad script error, it will cause your browser to try to decode the bug, and causes your CPU usage to jump up to 100% and stay there... the long your CPU usage stays at 100% the hotter it will get, and the fan will speed up to compensate...

a couple of quick questions about the problem; is the page youre visiting a reliable sourse (a ligit website such as google, or yahoo, wikipedia or something), or is a a dodgy website, like porn, or file sharing? if its the latter than its probably the page itself

first off, try using another webbrowser besides internet explorer. try firefox, or opera, see if that makes any difference

Sam's got some great points there, and in terms of web browsers I'd recommend Opera!
However, you do say your PC is slow. I'd recommend you'd do this:

* run a spyware app! http://www.hitmanpro.nl is great. It's got 5 or 6 different spyware scanners in the same software.

once that's done'

*do a defrag of your system disc/ partition. Perfectdisk is the software to search for there. It's a very neat and very efficient defragger and will do the job a lot quicker than the Windows one ( unless you haven't defragged in ages, if ever Shocked )

Those two things should be done at least once a week. That'll keep your PC running quick, unless of course, you've got some hardware probs aswell. ( Make sure your HDD isn't getting full also; that will slow it down loads)

Hope you get it sorted!

Some onl ine spyware scanners are decent, but they don't do as good a job as the proper installed software. I really do recommend hitmanpro, it does the job nicely! I'll get rid of most spyware, cookies and unnecessary internet files. A regular defrag is essential aswell, to keep your system running smoothly.

How long have you had the PC? Have you every defragged, or done a spyware-check? Would you know how to format? ( often a good solution if nothing else works)

You mentioned you watch movies on the PC... There's your prob.. Your HD is jam packed full of gigs of internet junk and duplicates.. and needs delicious CrazyChic's cure...

If I had your problems.. I'd go to MajorGeeks website, and immediately download and run: CM DiskCleaner, Easy Cleaner, F Prot Win, and Power Defrag (all features)... And I'd remove everything: macromedia, flashplayer, backweb, desktopmessenger, and showbehind.. from my registry...

This cleanup process takes about four to six hours... A shop would probably charge $200... Or you could save all your files and pix, and format C, and reload the system fresh.. IF you have all the CD's... but a proper fdisk reload can take ten hours, plus ten hours tweaking...

Feels a little like having a flat tire and no spare, or being stuck in the mud, don't it..?

simplest solution ive found to keeping your PC running smoothly, find a good setup in regards to partitioning your hard drive, and do a backorder/format once every 3-6 months (dependant on usage your machine receives)

the only thing i keep on the C: is windows and a couple of program files, it makes it a shitload easier

I'm the same Sam. Have my HDD partitioned and only use the C drive for Win and apps. Makes formatting ever so easy as everything else is on my other partition!

To partition you must start at the very beginning.. by formatting-C.. erasing the hard drive... losing all your files and softwares... and load the OS fresh...

Do you have the Windows OS CD, and the key code? Which Windows OS are you using?

Go to ShutDown>Start in Dos>Type in: "Format C:">Enter... That totally erases the HD...

Restart with the OS CD and boot floppy in the drives... At the prompt, type in "fdisk"... partitioning options will eventually show...

First read "Running a fast smooth W98se"... There's a lot to do to save your treasured files, pix, and favorites.. before you format C...

It's a good learning experience... Good Luck!
