adobe flash player upgrade reminders keep coming up, though the system i have is perfectly workable.. anyway to stop the popup 'reminders' - very irritating!
There are probably several ways...
I first run all my cleaners, then I make a fresh registry backup, then I go into Start, Run, type in Regedit, Edit, Find.. and type in a @...
Then I continue going into Edit, and Find Next.. deleting ALL the URL Internet links I find in the registry... It helps, but it doesn't get all of them.. some are in the programs... Caution to delete only URL's that you recognise as URL's... Should you mess things up, you can always run your registry backup, to make things as they were before you started messin' in the registry...
Here's the rest of the trick: Download "Tiny Personal Firewall".. It's free...
Install it, go into advanced, and edit everything from connecting to the Net, with a pop up rule... Then configure TPF, as you go, to allow only what you want to contact the Internet.. Then edit the irritating rule popups to not popup... Secure TPF under a password... Block even TPF from contacting the Net too.. but don't block your front door firewall...
BlackIce Firewall also gives you a lot of control on what your computer does... so does "Easy Cleaner"... (don't even think of messing with easy cleaner's duplicates cleaner)
Whenever I have a computer problem, I type it in my browser, and do a surf on it... modifying my words every way I can think of... That usually gets me into a website that has the solution...
Now do a regedit Find and Destroy for everything "backweb", and everythin "desktopmessenger"... Those two nasties are in your PC to continually determine if your softwares need updating, and they are what triggers a lot of those irritating pest popups...
Thing is.. It's YOUR computer.. YOUR property... You sure don't want it full of money-sucking marketing pests, flashing in your face every day, all day...

simplest way to do it is to update your flash player, its only a small application, and itll keep your version of flash as compatible as can be...
popup and adware blockers wont really do too much i reckon, try checking the program options for a setting to control the feature, should be there somewhere
Those reboot and reminder popups "splashes".. can be stopped with a "splash blocker" free download...
Check Majorgeeks for a free splashblocker...
...And surf the manufacturer's forum for, "stop the splash screen"...
I am told that three of the softwares behind those splash screens are: macromedia, desktopmessenger, and backweb... There may be more, but no one has responded to any of my various computer help forum queries to determine if there are others, which should be removed from a clean PC...
I read that desktopmessenger & backweb gets into the PC via the Logitech mouse and keyboard, drivers CD install... And macromedia gets in with HP printer drivers CD...
I asked both companies, Logitech & HP, for a "borebones CD of their drivers, but haven't got a reply yet... and probably won't... They're hiding from that one!.. Nearly everybody is filling up the clear spaces with "in your face, all the time, marketing"... Sometimes that incessant marketing barrage feels like someone is trying to make me eat my peas, when I'm full.. and hate peas...
I manually clean those "splash poppers" out of the system.. with a vengeance!..
When those pests are in the system, my browser loads to the desktop in 15 to 25 seconds... Without them in the system, the browser loads to the desktop in 2.8 seconds... Having them in my PC, is like someone has applied an anchor to my life... and I really don't like it...
Those companies Won't be getting any of my money!.. they play too mean... My money goes to those who are making a good world to be in...
After you get nasties cleaned out, if you go that route.. splash cleaner, or manual cleanup.. to re-establish a clean registry and OS.. good plan to make a registry backup to your desktop... I made one backup without HP CD install... and one with...
Start>Run>"regedit">"enter">Registry>Export file to desktop...
Comes in handy when the computer gets hit by an Internet hunk of Internet alternate-reality space-junk... plus you get more control over your computer, a minimum of splash irritations, slowdowns, and glitches..
and it feels more like it's Your computer, and less theirs...
Point is, if a company's product irritates you, then don't give them any more of your money... Eventually they'll realize that you do better sales when you're nice to your customers...
Problem is.. that after they've discovered unfathomable success.. they have no more need for honesty and tenderness... They can't see beyond their stack of money, and all their drool falling on it...
About as ugly as "gold fever"...
I think if we stopped buying gas, worldwide, that the price would fall to where we stopped stopped buying gas...
If splash screens upset you, like they wake my dragon.. I'd do both the manual cleanup.. and download a splash blocker...
It super important to know how to establish a clean-registry and backups.. and how to use them, to restore your machine in the event of a bully's slap...
Last year there wasn't much on how to learn the registry...
This year there is a complete simple course on the registry, in the Internet... There are people out there, reworking every software there is... There are software evolutions literally every micro-second...
I'm building my own registry instructional course from key integral chunks from the Internet... occasionally ., copying, and adding new chunks as I find them... There are new registry tips and download tweaks, which make things run even that much better and faster, and less troublesome.. and new features for everything in Your PC...
The Ultimate software feature is Seamonkey Browser's compose and spellcheck...
Thing is.. You need to get a good feel for the registry, so to make the monster into a funny gentle pussycat...
Those offending popups are what's known as "corporate money-sucking".. parallel to "the gorila beating its chest".. or a drum-roll...
Maybe it time we pried them off the tit...
