From personal experience, and talking to friends.........for MOST normal people (ie. Not celebs), then 10 years is about the biggest gap that can work in the long term. Any more than that and you are getting uncomfortably close to a generation gap (16 years give or take). You will find that your friends wont get on. You will have little in common to talk about. Sex, which many percieve to be a common problem, usually isnt. Once married, sex normally wanes a bit anyway, so dont expect intense passion like when you first met. Lets face it, you dont go into a library and take out the same book every week do you? And expect to be surprised at the ending?
Ideally, I would say and age gap of 0-5 years is the best. 5-10 years can be fine depending. Over ten years and the writings on the wall from day one.
And thats the bottom line, like it or not.

i'm married to an older man and let me give you this advice.

Dont do it! My hubbie is 10 years older than me.

I love him dearly and would never leave him as he is my all.

but

there is no sex, there is also a generational gap in regards to present culture. Interests start to vary and change as he grows older ............. and i am at homeevery night, No pubs no clubs. no life outside of him. not even family. its a lonely life and thats why I say dont do it.

he'll never understand when you tell him....coz you are considered to be his last chance.... the guilt of leaving is too mcuh to take and therefor you stay and work hard to ignore the issues that make you sad (the lonleyness) but they never go away, they seem to stay and dominate your every thought when he is working and you are at home working in the house being a perfect little young wife.

I am sorry to be so me throughout this ..... but eventually it will kill your confidence too.
but dont doubt he loves you .... mines adores me apparantly .... he never seems to show this though. and Imiss affection and comfort. I am lonely
