Hi

Im getting married next year, were wanting something simple and aborad, we just want it to be us and my child, shes 8, were wanting to go somewhere a little different so have anyone got any ideas? Out budget it about 5 grand but thats for the holiday including spending money and paying for the wedding and that not including my dress and other outfits.

Any ideas would be great or any advice you could offer us would help too.

We are thinking of kenya and canada right now.

Thanks

Three people can have a lot of fun for 5 grand! Here's some of the stuff that I would like to do I had not been such a sucker for the traditional wedding with all the bells and whistles:

Burn it all on a long week-end in Paris!

I have never been to Kenya, but I love South Africa and you can get some excellent deals on travel and very nice hotels or (perhaps even better) top-notch lodges. How about getting married on table mountain and having the photos taken at Cape Point. Spend a week travelling east on the "Garden Route" and fly to either Sun City (a bit Vegas'y, but still very nice) and then spending time in the game park right next to it, or head straight for a nice lodge in the Kruger Park.

Everybody tells me that especially the western parts of Canada is amazing so I am sure that could be a fantastic place as well, but I guess it will also be a lot more expensive.

Thailand is a long-standing favourite of mine, and especially some of the smaller islands offer some extremely romantic spots with all but private beaches, fantastic wining and dining in luxury hotels or small "huts" directly at the beach or even on stilts in the water.

I am also a sucker for the Dominican Republic, but it can be a bit of an "acquired taste" when you leave the compounds of the many fantastic hotels.

I would personally get bored, and it costs a fortune, but there are some very, very nice cruise vessels in the Mediterranean in the summer - and all year round in the Caribbean.

Lastly, try and consider the Middle East. It is much better than its reputation! Combine a bit of glamour in Dubai with some of the impressive nature in neighbouring Oman. About 2000 km of coastline with sandy secluded beaches, fantastic hotels (primarily around Muscat) where you can also show off that gorgeous new bikini and get silly sipping vintage champagne while you enjoy a super fresh lobster! While there, you should also take a "dessert safari" it is a great experience with "luxury camping" and all you need to consider if you want to be chauffeured or if it's fun to do the driving yourselves.

Have a fantastic wedding!

I got married last year in Cuba for £5000 and that was for the honeymoon, wedding ceremoney and little party there after, meal at night and cracking honeymoon suit, it was amazing, but that was with sandals which is couples only, the do a child friendly resort called Beaches and thats the same idea and heavenly, worth a look.
