Im now using AVG free anti-virus - I used to use Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Personal Firewall - does anyone know if AVG is all I need to protect my PC or should I back it up with other AV software?

As has been said AVG is fine, just make sure you update it regularly! An AV that's not updated is the same as not having one at all!

you need a firewall - that's as or more important than a virus scanner. does AVG have a firewall bundled in? if not, you can use Kerio Personal Firewall. It's free to download and very good.

I dont know if AVG has a firewall - actually thats what I wanted to ask so thanks for pre-empting me, Irish. I'll look and see and if not I'll download Kerio - if, as Alan P says its still supporting the free version. Thanks all.

I prefer Panda and Kaspersky, but AVG beats Norton and McAfee POS's. Zone Alarm is my preference for a firewall. Plus Spybot Search and Destroy. And Firefox, of course.

Sygate stopped with free version.. Kerio you can still run after evaluation is over with a few less options..

Like others said, having just anti-virus doesn't do it these days, firewall is also the 'must have' software.

Windows XP comes with one, for those that have Winxp. Enabled by default. I hated it at first.
