My experience is that the pain from a nostril piercing is almost exactly like an ear piercing. So that wouldn't be a reason to choose one over the other.

You should decide what you think will look better on your own body and which is more practical from the standpoint of day to day life (removing it for sports, etc.). Don't base your decision on the potential pain -- either one is pretty trivial in the scheme of things, and I have experienced some ear piercings that hurt worse than nostril piercings, anyway.

While I realize this may be hard to accept at your age, in the long run, you can have both, or as many or as few as you want at any given time, you know. Keep in mind that you're only deciding which one will come now, first, and that should help you have some perspective about it.

You are going to live the rest of your life with whatever you get pierced. If it doesn't matter to you whether you get your cartilage or your nose pierced I suggest you wait until you are sure what you do want to have pierced.

Oh, come off it. If you don't like a nose piercing, take it out and you won't even be able to tell that it was pierced.

But hell, if you're not sure how it'll look, get a fake nose ring and wear it for a few days.

Well, my parents had no clue that I was actually planning to get my nose pierced on the day I had decided to.
My dad was away, and my mom was at home. My friend was intending on getting her eyebrow pierced that day so I went with her to get it done, then I phoned my mom and asked her to give me consent to get my nose pierced, she refused, but after a lot of bribing, it paid off and she caved in. She gave her consent and I was able to get the piercing, piece of cake!

!!HELP PLEASE!!
I was soo happy with my piercing for the first month or so.. Then all of a sudden, the oh-so-common dreaded bump. I've tried everything I could on the squishy bump, but it just won't budge. It's a complete mystery. I went to the piercer who told me to use tea tree oil, which I did, with failure. I was told to use sea salt soaks, which I did, also failed. But they managed to make the bump atleast 5 times larger and full of puss, which luckily I managed to get rid of. But now I'm always left with a bump that looks like it's drying up, and then the dry layer on the top will peel off, leaving me with a shiny raw bump. This repeats itself over and over.
I haven't tried the "paste" method, can anyone actually tell me if this works?
I love my piercing and really don't want to remove it!

Oh my goodness I cannot believe how liberal all you parents are!! Im 22 and got my nose pierced when i was 21 and my dad was very mad!! I got a tattoo at 18, another at 20 and my nose at 21. Im now 22 and ive taken my piercing out after only a yr. I love it i really do but mine has never healed properly. I actially had to have it done twice. Both times i got the dreaded bump. Even after 6 months it would come and go and it was still really red. result? it looked sore and not attractive, I took it out for a day and its completely closed up - a yr after it was done!!

I would never let my children have it done so young. I dont think it looks nice, but im impressed that you are all so liberal and close to your children and i think thats lovely. I think it is important to remember that for some pople it doesn't heal properly and you will end up with what has happened to me.

My parents let me have my ears pierced when I was 4 (because her parents would never let my mum, so she did it behind their backs!!) But anything else my mum has always said to me that it will be my decision as an adult and living in their house. I repect my parents for that decision. It is interesting to see the generation differences. My dad hates my additions but i always tell him to just not look at them!! If my nose didnt look so awful when it was sore, or it wasnt so difficult to put my peircing in after a clean and to be honest i found it bloody difficult to look after my skin properly with it in and at least once a wk i would rip it ou in my sleep! If it wasnt for all that I'd still have mine done. But im warying about getting it re-done and going thru all teh healing and lumps again.

I wanted my tattoo from the age of 14. I never told my mum or dad. I consciously made the decision to do it when i turned 18 - i look at it now and its a symbol of me becoming an adult Smile

Now im thinking about another piercing or tattoo!! No doubt my dad will be mad and i'll act a smart arse. But i'm proud to know that when i have kids and they point at my tattoos and piercings and say "but mummy, YOU have one" i'll be able to say....when you turn 18 the decision is yours. SO take the time to think about it before you get it done. They stay with you forever (well tattoos do) and its important you really want it done.

Whilst i do not agree with your decision to let a child have such a piercing I do indeed respect your relationship and level headedness. There are many parents that could take a lesson from you all!

I guess it depends on the people concerned. Just as some teenagers are more grown up than others so some parents are more understanding than others.
I worked on the basis that if I was a good daughter then my parents were more likely to agree to anything I wanted to do while if I was bolshy they were more likely to say NO.
I got my ears pierced a 4 and second piercings when I was 8.
By 14 I had 4 piercings in each ear and a nose stud and then asked for a tattoo. Once they realised that I had thought it through, realised that it was for life and wanted to get it somewhere where it was easily hidden they agreed. They afterwards admitted that by letting me get one they thought that the pain involved would put me off getting more. WRONG! I loved getting tattooed.
At 16 I was allowed nipple rings and from then on virtually anything I wanted body wise.
I am now 18 with 10 piercings in each ear, both nostrils, nipples and navel pierced. Tattoo wise both arms are fully sleeved and I have extensive work on my chest and back. I am happy, my parents are happy and we get on famously.
