I just ran my NAV and it says it needs *URGENT ATTENTION* because there is an ERROR on my email scanning and I dont know how to fix it. Does it mean its not scanning my emails now?

Did REGVAC wipe it off?

No reg vac wouldn't wipe it. You may have a corupt file. Yes it's worth buying because it will keep it up to date and it always finds bad files and fixes them. As far as your NAV, bring it up and make sure it's set to scan incoming and outgoing files. That may be what it's saying to you that it needs to be set. CWSchredder is good also and it's always free and it looks for and removes ( if you have any ) all coolwebsearch spyware and also fixes it, and the updates are always free also. From time to time I also back up my antivirus check with another site that microsoft turned me on to that they use. It also checks for viruses and shows you what to do if it finds one and it's always free also. If you wish to run this go to www.trendmicro.com/housecall and it will promt you as what to do. It is also a great site for help. If you don't find what is needed for your NAV Attention then just go to add and remove programs and remove and reinstall your NAV and that will cure it because as I said it may have a corupt file and removing it will kill the bad file and then reinstalling it will set it up right again for you. Just be sure you have the NAV CD to reinstall it before you remove it, if you have to go the route.

ok phew - NAV seems to have corrected itself and I am running REGVAC every time my computer starts up.....its already made a difference...its much faster - or it appears to be.

I just downloaded cwshredder and ran it and it found no threats.

DAMMIT...Im getting a fax search box every time I turn on...it wants to look for a fax that I dont have..how can I stop it?

I'm glad to see that your puter is running better for you. As far as the fax thing I am getting the same thing. The windows installer comes up and tries to install it and I don't have one either ( just a printer , scanner, copier ). I found out it was a glitch in one of the windows updates from microsoft and there's a patch for it. I'm going to call them Monday and work with their support team over the phone like I have done before to get the fix for this problem everyone seems to be having. When it comes up when you start up just click on cancel. If it's doing the same as mine it will come up 3 times. Just hit cancel each time and will go away until you start up the next time. When I get the fix from microsoft I will post it here for you and all others to see so you can resovle the problem. By the way, do your disk clean up every day as every time you go to a site it builds back up due to cookies and such. Another thing you can do to help keep things clean is go to " start " the click on " control panel " then click on " network and internet connections " then click on " internet options " at which point a window will pop up. Then in temp files click on "delete temp files" and another little window will pop up. Put a check in the little box that says " delete all offline content " then click OK. When this is done ( give it a minute or two, and put your pointer over the window as this will let you know when you are done as the pointer will return from a little sand dial thing back to a pointer ) then click on "delete cookies" and you will have removed all the cookies that are installed every time you visit a site, and this will also help to keep your puter cleaner and faster. Cookies are a normal thing but will also build up and tend to slow your puter down if they are left to build up for too long.

thanks about the fax thing.....at the moment I do control / alt/ delete and bring up windows task manager to get rid of it ......but I d be very pleased to get rid of it for good.

I already do the delete temp internet files thing and also run regvac every tme I turn on and do NAV twice a week but sometimes - like yesterday NAV just started running a scan by itself.

Im going to do the disc clean up now

Its actually running very well since I started doing the REGVAC and disk clean up etc. It was ok before - its pretty new anyway but I was more worried about viruses and I kept getting Trojans so I wanted to protect against them. I dont know a lot about it so Im learning gradually and this thread has been of invaluable help.

Yeah if you don't go into settings on NAV to change it, NAV is set by default to run on it's own every Friday night at 8pm. I will post next after Monday Oct. 25 after I find out the fix patch for that pain in the ass windows installer that keeps trying to install a fax.

On eexcellent sytem that none of you have mentioned is Registry mechanic and spyware doctor, both from the same stables, but excellent at sorting registry problems. spyware doctor also prevents pop ups and various other badies that the anti virus fails to find coz they are not viruses.

A program that I would recommend that is better than spydoctor is spysweeper which can be found at www.webroot.com Spysweeper is of course anti spyware and is probably the best anti spyware product on the market.
