Depend on which browser you on..
If you are using MS Internet Expolrer - you should consider to download the google's toolbar that have popup blocker.
If you using Mozilla Firefox, it alread build in
More people starting to use Firefox because of better security - it disabled those Javascript that cause some spyware/adware etc...
I hope this help. |

Another useful extension for Firefox is FlashBlock.
Kills all those pesky FLASH files that waste CPU time and replaces them with a "click
to view" icon. It's amazing how rarely I feel the urge to view a FLASH file and now I
have a choice |

| Although we still have IE installed on our PCs (you still need it for Windows update and some other websites) we use Firefox on a regular basis and my husband gives me hell if he finds me using IE by mistake. |

| Puting in another vote for Firefox. Avoid IE as much as possible. Even the upcoming 7.0 release is promising be a big stinking pile of you-know-what, since Microsoft has publicly admitted that it plans to ignore certain web standards. |

| As cheap as it sounds, the free Yahoo Toolbar with popup blocker is quite effective. If you are running XP Service Pack 2, the built-in blocker works really well with that. |

Google is better but works for IE only... Firefox don't require any tools bar for stopping those poping up. so thumb up to firefox |

Currently, Firefox is the best browser for the Windows platform. However, Google released a firefox toolbar extension a few weeks ago...

I didn't need it much, but, it's nice to have. |

As the popular response is: Firefox ( and also the Mozilla Suite) is the cure! FlashBlock (mentioned) and also AdBlock make it even better, though I haven't used them personally.
Sort of on the same topic... there's an extension Nuke Anything, which you can use to remove anything you want on a page! I find that useful, as I can remove pictures or banners that I don't like! |

This is what I have found is that default settings of the internet explorer pop up blocker that comes with the windows updates is all you really need. If you are getting pop ups at default settings of the internet explorer pop up blocker you have spyware and adware on your computer.
Mozilla firefox is more secure than internet explorer but you have to take into account that internet explorer is the most popular internet browser so.
I recommend that you first install spysweeper, get the trial version. www.webroot.com |

Just to add my support for Firefox IE just can't come any where near it in functionality including blocking popups.
