I have posted about this before in a different thread, but it bears repeating because it is very relevant to this thread topic.
I have a female friend (English, btw) whose younger sister is actually her daughter and doesn't know it. My friend's father raped and impregnated her when she was aged 11. She gave birth whilst she was still 11. My friend's parents decided that she would carry and deliver the baby girl and that they would raised the baby as my friend's "sister."
My friend's "sister"/daughter, now aged 20 or 21 (I forget), is perfectly normal and completely unaware of the circumstances of her conception and birth. But my friend is anything but normal. She has suffered from co-morbid mental illnesses since childhood. She is functional only because she takes a daily regimen of psychotropic medications with physically draining side effects. Even with all the meds, she is a very deeply troubled person.
I oppose abortion as a matter of principle, particularly late-term abortion of convenience, though I do not believe it is wise or realistic to outlaw abortion altogether. But for the life of me, I cannot fathom how my friend's parents, especially her mother, decided against aborting and made my friend carry and deliver her own biological father's rape-induced baby at age 11. One normal life was brought into the world, but another life (my friend's life) was effectively extinguished.
I'm sorry this happened to your friend, Myron, I really am.
An eleven year olds body is hardly designed for pregnancy, so in this case, abortion would likely have been the better option - especially considering what the trauma has done to your friend.
Your friends mother should have known it was her daughters choice to abort, not hers. Her wishes (if she expressed them) were not respected.
Having said that, Fred, you're an idiot, really you are.
My opinion is simple: If a woman is raped and does not wish to continue with the pregnancy, she has the right to abort. Her physical and mental health come first.

Mentally... the girl was going to be in bad shape regardless.
It's what happens when dad rapes you.
Physically, well, if the pregnancy endangered the mother life then yes, abortion is justified to save her life.
Should an INNOCENT child be executed (sucked out and washed down the sink) for a crime someone else committed?
But if you are forced to have a child that was concieved in HATE would you not hate it for the rest of its life. Surelly that is worse knowing that your father was a criminal and your morther hates you for it ?

If your going to be CRUEL to the child by telling them that....
best you give the child to a loving family that wants him/her.

oh forget it you lot are idiots. I cant even be bothered to point out or argue the psychological damage on the woman of carrying to term the product of a rape.

Well, I'm torn G&P. I also value the fight for life that little dividing cell makes. Ultimately, I support the woman's right to choice. But a lot of women, even in a rape situation, choose to bring their issue to full term. They are braver and more compassionate than you or I. That's what I'm thinking of.

How do you know that her mental condition would have been the same had she aborted or not?
Her mental condition could have greatly improved had she been able to abort the pregnancy. She never had that choice, and that, IMO, is like being raped all over again.

Fair enough Cambridge - soz if I came across as belligerent - when I read Freds posts I get so exasperated and incredulous that I lash out.
Pregnancy as the result of rape or incest is something I will never experience in this lifetime and cannot imagine the torment of making choices such as an abortion in that situation. As a man who uses logic I would suggest the child be aborted due to its life being the result of a crime being commited.

i have not voted in this poll (or in many of fred's other polls) as fred just about always loads the questions he asks in order to skew the results. he also presents his subject matter in a way that suggests that everything is black or white and totally ignores that there are many shades of grey.
fred also makes out that abortion is murder. he talks of a child being executed, which conjures up images of toddlers being gunned down by firing squads. surely a woman who has been raped would take one of those "morning after" pills or, if she didn't do that in time, have an abortion as soon as practical, which would certainly be before the end of the first trimester. so much for executing children.
fred would have a woman who has been raped (and who knows how much she would have suffered as a result) be further traumatised by being sentenced to spend, against her wishes, the next nine months bringing the child into the world and then give the child up for adoption. and what if this child later in life decides to investigate their background and finds out everything? so, fred's heartlesness ruins two lives.
why oh why does fred hate us women with such a passion?

Well... I think conception is the start of life.
And I dont think killing innocent human life is justifiable to make one feel better.
But if you want to execute an innocent third party... that's currently still your choice. Not that I approve of it.
