Don't whatever you do use RAC Auto Windscreens for replacement windscreen service. Which in turn means don't use Norwich Union as an insurer, since they use RAC Auto Windscreens.
They are totally incompetent. We have now had two home visits, two trips to the depot and an additional four broken appointments over a period of three weeks and the car is still not usable.
They never call back when the say they will. Excuses we've had so far include, wrong windscreen, a bad batch of glue, broken heater wires, the fitter was sick, the clips are loose (try not fitted at all guys), still waiting to hear the latest excuse.
So I say again don't use them. |

I had the windscreen break on my then-new Merc, and the dealership told me that unless I had the replacement screen fitted by an approved fitter (not Auto Windscreens, Autoglass, etc.) it would invalidate the car's warranty. I checked the small print and that did seem to be the case. The given reason was that if it wasn't fitted right, water might get in and damage the electronics.
Useful warning, thanks. |

Well it took them another broken appointment, another sick fitter apparently.
Then two of them came out together and fitted six plastic plugs in about two minutes and cured the problem. I think one of them was there just as protection for the other fitter.
Now I've calmed down I can prepare a letter of complaint for my insurer. |

| I cannot begin to describe the absolutely disgusting service that RAC Windscreens have given me (through my insurance, who will not be receiving a renewal from me!). What a bunch of liars! My very small, fixed window was smashed, and at first they came out to fit my car with a panel of plastic, to which I though, fair play, at least its better than a big gaping hole! The man who came to do it was very nice actually. The man at the actual repair centre, completely different story! Firstly, he said the glass had to be ordered in, it was Sunday so completely plausable, and said he would have it Tuesday night. Wednesday morning comes, and the glass is still not there (and I would like to mention at this point, all communication has been from me calling them, and never the other way around), but he ASSURES me that the fitting will take place Wednesday afternoon, as Ive had a day off work for this. The appointment was set for between 1330hr-1430hr. 1620hr comes, still no sign of anyone, so I phone back the repair centre, and get the same lying person telling me that the fitter will "most definately arrive within the hour" - 1750hr comes...still no-one, and surprise surprise, everyone's gone home! Manage to get through to an out-of-hours centre, who say that customer services will call and sort it. They call to sort it, hah! All the woman tells me is the technician isn't free to do it today, and the one who was meant to come has "gone off shift" - what a joke! So a days wages, a days time and much money in phonecalls wasted! And I get to pay £50 to my insurer for the trouble. It would have been better if they had been honest about it. The insurance company don't care either in fairness, Im sure this is across the board. I never had any trouble with autoglass when I needed emergency work doing. In my job, if I didn't do what I said I would, people die! Disgusting service, they mess you about...I would encourage anyone who's insurance company use RAC Windscreens to think twice before accepting a quote. It is extremely stressful and beyond a joke. For reference my insurer is Endsleigh, and the man I spoke to there, coudn't find his back-side with both hands! |

Norwich Union breakdown service is disgusting. My daughter had their breakdown cover some time ago and was unfortunate enough to have two punctures at the same time one dark evening and they refused to attend. They would have come to fix one puncture but not two, as it was classed as insurance damage.
This is unacceptable for a lone female at night!
Dad to the rescue, just to move the car slowly to somewhere secure until next morning and then give her a lift home. A mobile tyre fitter sorted things out the next day. I certainly spoke my mind to the breakdown call centre. What about those with no family or friends who drive? |

| There seems to be a little bit of ill feeling towards RAC Autowindscreens here. I am a Manager for the company and I have to say we do all we can to help our customers and get it right first time. Things do go wrong from time to time but I feel its unfair to tar everyone with the same brush. Not all branches are the same. |

| Just to make you all feel better, Autowindscreens was sold to RAC for just over £110M, it has since been run into the ground by incompetant senior management and is now up for sale for a MAX of £50M and it only took the ex RAC BSM management 5yrs to destroy what was once a good business. |

Hello everybody,i work for R A C AUTOWINDSCREENS,we FITTERS work REALLY HARD, taking a screen out and putting a new one in take's alot off hard work and effort, without training there's no one on the planet that can do this.If thing's do go wrong we try our hardest to put thing's right.I think it's UNFAIR that 1 customer out of 100 is unhappy and put's the whole company down.I've worked here over a year and thousands and thousands of customers are really happy with the service and if a customer is unhappy we sort thing's out and they understand this job is not as simple as making a BOILED EGG.

Well I worked for RAC at Crawley for a time and couldnt wait to get out,The guys are great but the managment are only interested in thier cars and wage packets.
The Regional manager is so corropt it make you wanna puke!
They are all cashing in where they can and expect you to turn a blind eye or be threatened wth the sack!
Good luck guys with this take over hopefully they will see the scum management for what they are and clear the lot of them to leave you to save this shower of shite!! |

What I find really sad is that the RAC and AA had a really good reputation for being dedicated to helping their members. After you paid your membership, it was a service (anyone remember that word?).
Then Big Business moved in and suddenly it's the same old crap - profit, targets, efficiency drives and getting you to buy things. I can't remember the name (Panorama???) but there was a TV program a while ago highlighting the pressure RAC roadside people are under to sell things like batteries. |

Too true about targets and profits etc.
Some businesses have kept to the good old fashioned service policy and kept customers happy first. Guess what? Lots more customers arrive and profits go up. |
