Don't take Dianette! It gave me migraines and sickness for the 3 years I took it and I didn't realise it was the Dianette causing it at the time. I kept crying at the doctors as I felt so ill all the time but they could not find anything wrong with me. It also made me constantly tired and dizzy, and I could not tolerate even a drop of alcohol without it giving me a rash. I also suffered with depression. When I stopped taking it I lost a stone within weeks and ALL these symptoms disappeared (except my spots which came back worse than before I took Dianette.) 3 years on I had a miscarriage and now find out that Dianette could be the reason for this too.

Dianette only makes the problem worse in the long term and with possible links to miscarriage and infertility nothing it worth that.

I have been reading about Dianette for long and decided to give it a bit of try to cope my acne problem. So I found it on http://www.hairtreatment4u.co.uk through a random search and ordered. I must say it really helped and I have also recommended it to a few other friends with the same problem.[/url]

Really, you guys are scarying a lot of girls here. I took dianette for 5 years for skin problems, then came of it without a problem. BUT and its a BIG BUT, you dont just stop taking it altogether!! If you have spoken to a doctor I'm surprised that they didnt tell you cant just cold turkey after dianette- youre asking for trouble! You have to ween yourself off using a lower dose pill. Which is what I have done, no problems, skin is still good, as good as it was on dianette and I have no problems with my periods. It is worth also bearing in mind, that these pills effect everyone differently. Some people will have dreadful experiences, and I'm sorry to those of you that do, but the majority of the population will be and are fine. So try not to worry too much.

For those of you who are going on Dianette to get rid of spots DO NOT DO IT!! I had horrific acne all over my back, chest, shoulders, tops of my arms, neck, scalp, face etc and nothing would work for me. I ended up going to see a dermatologist (after trying all these rubbish anti biotics prescribed by my gp) and he put me on a drug called Roaccutane which basically dries up your sebacious glands and let me tell you it is a miracle drug. I took it for 5 months and I have never had spots since and my skin is never oily and my hair doesn't ever get ridiculously greasy. There are side effects of this drug, depression being a common one, but I would go through all that again to have my clear skin. I'm so much more confident as a person now.
I also took Dianette for 6 months recently for irregular periods and I stopped taking it because it made me put on weight and feel depressed and bloated and just generally rubbish. Plus after reading these horror stories I never want to take it again.

I started taking dianette when I was 14 due to acne on my face, chest and back. It worked wonders with no side effects. I stopped taking it when I was 24 because I'd heard horror stories about being on it too long. The next 6 months was just awful, my acne came back worse than ever (has scarred my face) and I felt terribly low. Decided to go back onto Dianette - it took about 10 months for my acne to clear up and it had left me with acne scars. But, with my acne gone I felt better. 2 years later I wanted a baby, so came back off the pill dreading what was going to happen. As expected the acne returned, my period took about 3 months to return but I didn't feel low like I had the previous time. Got pregnant 5 months after stopping dianette but had a missed misscarriage at 6 weeks. Got pregnant again 6 months after m/c. Had a gorgeous healthy boy in 2006. Not wanting to go back onto dianette and knowing I wanted another baby, I got pregnant again with 1 month of trying and had a baby girl earlier this year. My first successful pregnancy cleared up my acne and because I had a baby so soon after my first baby the acne didn't have time to return.....But now is a different story. My daughter is 7 months old and my skin has started to get bad again! I'm gutted. And am now considering going back on Dianette. Really don't know what to do. I'm 29 and had hoped not to go back on the pill due to acne.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was on Dianette for 10 years after having severe acne since I was 11. I tried Roaccutane which I had to come off of, at 14 having tried everything on the market I was put on Dianette. Over ten years no GP's ever told me how dangerous it was until lately. 6 months ago my GP informed me it was the strongest pill on the market and can cause liver problems and thrombosis and recommended I now try another pill as my skin may not flare up as much (I'm now 25). Nothing was mentioned regarding infertility etc as mentioned here which is really scary! I came off the Dianette and did some research and got referred to a dermatologist as my skin started to get worse again (after all these years of much improvement ) I asked my GP for Yasmin as I saw it all over the internet as the new wonder pill for skin, hair, nails etc. The first GP I saw would not give me it and gave me Marvelon which I had to come off of after 6 weeks because I had major headaches for first time in my life. The second GP gave me Yasmin and instantly my skin became the worst it has ever been in my life I have huge lumps on my face and even my back which has never happened!!! I am crying all the time and fighting with my boyfriend it really is the worst time of my life and I have nothing at all to be upset about!! I was advised by the dermatologist that Dianette will be "back in fashion" again soon and this is coming from a specialist! She advised me to stick with Yasmin for at least 6 months as its so good!!!! Thats 5 months and I'm definitely coming off of it at the end of this packet I cannot handle acne at this age and the moodswings beware anyone who is told to try this pill. I am researching but I cannot find any other pill that seems like it will help me Does anyone have any ideas what I can do next ???????

Am now trying my 5th pill which my GP has said can help skin although I am very doubtful!! Has anyone had any experience of Cilest improving skin? Have now been on it 5 days and am very nercous as to the side effects after my experience with other pills. If this doesnt work I am being referred back to the dermatologist in the hope of being put on Dianette on another attempt at Roaccutane, although this site has scared me senseless of Dianette, I dont know whats worse all these horror stories or acne at 25?!! Also trying Differin cream has anyone tried this either? x
I have just had to come off dianette because of many migraines and also I've had terrible aching in my legs every morning, not sure if this is to do with dianette or not. Anyway, my skin has gone terrible since I cam off it and having tried everything on the market, (including roaccutane twice) i am concerned as to what to do next to, but have done some research and have an idea. Cyroterone the chemical that help the acne in dianette can be prescribed alone for acne by taking it for the 1st 10 days of every cycle then a progesterone only pill can be taken apparently Norgeston doesn't have a lot of progestone in it and is one of the safer pills. I'm going to see my G.P tommorrow and make some suggestions so willlet you know if it works. Cilest by the way didn't work for me, infact dianette is the only pill that has over many years of trying others including Yasmin, I had terrible skin on that!! Hope this helps x Laughing Laughing

Yes please let me know if this helps!!! Have been on Cilest for over 2 months now and must say I have only had about 3 spots at most at a time and have had one or 2 weeks at a time spot free Very Happy obviously no where near as good as Dianette but much improvement on Yasmin!!! Every month at same time my skin is still going mad though wasn't like that on Dianette Crying or Very sad Differin cream - god only knows if this makes a difference have continued with this every day, find Panoxyl cream still great for drying out spots but not preventing them dont think anything in this world prevents them Sad x

I can't believe that I took this dumb pill. I was so vain and couldn't just put up with a few pimples a month, so I go and take the pill from hell for about one year. Yes, I got clear skin and less oily skin and hair, but just wait until you come off of it. I came off of Dianette because I totally lost my sex drive and my personality changed big time. I was like a schizophrenic! So, about 2 months later, I start breaking out like crazy - all over my forehead, cheeks, neck (I never ever had a breakout there in my life!), chin, etc. It's been now almost 8 months and I'm still struggling with acne!!!! It's horrible! I have tried everything to clear up my skin - you name it, I've tried it. I've been getting facials, eating only vegetables and fruits, using the best skin care products available and nothing works.

Dianette screwed up my hormonal balance and self esteem. I beg you ladies to not take this pill. This pill will also cause infertility, so if you don't want children, want to be a bitch and mentally unstable, don't like sex, like crying randomly, and want great skin -- then take this pill.

this pill does not cause infetility for those that keep writing it, many people have had kids after taking this pill. it would not be legal if it caused infertility ! so stop scaring everyone.

if your skin gets bad after coming off just wait for your hormones to balance back out again, take starflower oil this really helps

I was on dianette for just over two years for my skin, my doctor ensured that i was aware of all the risks of taking dianette and explained that it would be best to only take it untill my skin cleared up due to the increased risk of deep vain thrombosis, ive had awful acne since i hit my teens and have tried everything from oral antibiotics to topical antibiotics and the like, having been on dianette for a few months my skin looked better than ever. I experienced no problems whatsoever with dianette, no migraines, weight gain, mood swings and my periods became amazingly regular.
However i recently got into a long term relationship and wasnt comfortable relying on dianette as contraception so returned to my doctor to enquire about a contraceptive implant, but she explained that implants can make your skin a lot worse so recommended a different oral pill instead of dianette (to reduce the risks of taking dianette). She recommended cilest as it has the same hormones as the contraceptive pill and so would almost act as a test for my skin to see how it reacted to the hormones in cilest.
I was slightly uncomfortable changing pills as i was quite happy taking dianette but having been on cliest for just over a month now im quite happy with it, my skin worsened at the start but now it seems my hormones have evened out and my skin looks even better than it did on dianette, its a lot more supple and less dry (supposedly because dianette stops your body producing androgens which release oils)
I have also never heard a word spoken about dianette being banned, i think that may be slight hype and exageration on the internets behalf, and ironically enough my gp who advised me about dianette was pregnant at the time so im sure it has no effect on fertility!

Sorry thats a bit of an essay but i hope it helps and i hope cilest works out for you!! xxx

Hi

I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago after suffering from acne throughout my teens with no sign of improvement in my 20's. The pill helped with my skin and I came off it in August 2006 to try for a baby. My periods returned within 6 weeks and I was pregnant my January, had my little boy last October. My skin hardly worsened when I came off Dianette, I really didn't have any problems. I think the symptoms that people have experienced when coming off the pill are really what Dianette is masking - in other words you would experience them anyway if you had never been on Dianette.
