Hi =]
Ive been on dianette for about 2 and a half yrs now and my skin has almost completely cleared up! But, last night I couldnt sleep cos I kept getting terrible cramps and pins and needles in my 1 foot, and it kept going dead...being on dianette, Im quite worried that it could be the start of thrombosis or something!!
Ive also gone up a dress size since ive been on it, I used to be able to eat what I want and not put on any weight, now Im forever watching my weight and no matter how hard I try to lose it, it just wont budge!! Particularly on my hips, bum and thighs.
Also, I dont drink and I dont smoke, I have a balanced diet, and I walk alot. Recently Ive noticed cellulite appearing!! It's not common in my family!
Although these symptoms arent ideal...after reading all these horror stories Im really scared that all of these will get 10 times worse once I come off dianette!??!
Im going to uni in september so I need all the confidence I can get!
But I suppose ive got to come off it sometime, and everyones different right? Someone please share their good stories about coming off dianette with me!!!!
I was thinking, alot of the horror stories are coming from people who have been on it 5 years plus?
I dont know what to do!!
The doctor doesnt even see me anymore, he just writes me out repeat prescriptions. This confuses me seeing as last yr I had a problem with my blood pressure which could have been down to the pill! Also, the summer before last I had chronic stomach and bowel problems for a week. The doctors couldnt work out what was wrong with me! So this could have been another side effect of dianette!
Eeeeek
I want to come off it but im so worried!!!!
Help!

I am 22 years old and have bad skin. Its never been this bad, and quite frankly its getting me down. I don't leave the house, don't want to go out, nothing. Im also feeling moody as anything, often feeling sad and depressed.
I have been taking dianette for the past month. I have been on it before (for three months) and it worked wonders, and i had clear skin within a few weeks. But the difference now is that dianette is acutally increasing the amount of spots on my face rather than clearing it up. I just dont know what to do. Shall i stop taking it? im thinking of going on roaccutane--- is that safe to take just after being on the pill?
Hi, If dianette is causng this effect on you, then perhaps you should try an alternative. Try antibiotics or if they dont work then try roaccutain, even though this is very strong. I undertand how you feel, acne is the number one confidence killer! Iv suffered for soo long now i think im just 'use to it' Was on dianette for a while, but its caused terrible mood swings and the acne returned. Now im taking a course of antibiotics, they dont work wonders but minimise big flare ups.

ive been on dianette for 3 months and it wasnt a pleasant experience.
however, everyone is different, so dont assume the side affects i experienced will affect you too.
my skin only slightly improved, but i cried everyday whilst taking this pill, was incredibly moody and kept having dizzy spells. i also kept getting pains, numbness and pins and needles in my legs and feet.
ive just come off it and im on my 7 day break before starting yasmin, however, im not having my withdrawel bleed which is worrying me. is this pill reliable for contraception?

i suffered with acne from the age of thirteen. i had it all over my face, neck, bck, shoulders and chest. i had no confidence at all and wouldnt even leave the house-only to go to school. i couldnt even look people in the eye when speaking to them and constantly was looking at the ground. i tried a couple of courses of anti biotics which cleared it up beautifully but then came back again after about 6 months. At 16 i was referred to a dermatologist abd was given dianette. Within 2 months my skin was completely clear. flawless and soft to touch. I also use clinique soap(for oily skin)< clinique toner and clinique moisturising gel(for oily skin) and quinoderm which works wonders. I have now been on the pill for 5 years and cant fault it. I have not gained any weight, do not feel depressed. I know people have mentioned things such as hair loss but i have not had any negative effects from this pill. I have decided i will come off the pill next month and willt ake starflower oil (to balance out hormones) and vitamin b (good for skin, hair and nails) and continue to use clinique products and quinoderm(which is very good). I am a bit worried about my skin, but i think worrying about it will amke it worse. So i am trying to stay positive, eat healthy, excersice and still keep with my cleansing routine. Many people have posted negative reports about the pill here but i have found it amazing and would recommend it to anyone. Many women come off this pill without any problems they just dont come on ehre and post about it because people only look for help when they have experienced something negative. sorry to go on a bit. hope this helps x x x
I was on Dianette for 10 years after having severe acne since I was 11. I tried Roaccutane which I had to come off of, at 14 having tried everything on the market I was put on Dianette. Over ten years no GP's ever told me how dangerous it was until lately. 6 months ago my GP informed me it was the strongest pill on the market and can cause liver problems and thrombosis and recommended I now try another pill as my skin may not flare up as much (I'm now 25). Nothing was mentioned regarding infertility etc as mentioned here which is really scary! I came off the Dianette and did some research and got referred to a dermatologist as my skin started to get worse again (after all these years of much improvement ) I asked my GP for Yasmin as I saw it all over the internet as the new wonder pill for skin, hair, nails etc. The first GP I saw would not give me it and gave me Marvelon which I had to come off of after 6 weeks because I had major headaches for first time in my life. The second GP gave me Yasmin and instantly my skin became the worst it has ever been in my life I have huge lumps on my face and even my back which has never happened!!! I am crying all the time and fighting with my boyfriend it really is the worst time of my life and I have nothing at all to be upset about!! I was advised by the dermatologist that Dianette will be "back in fashion" again soon and this is coming from a specialist! She advised me to stick with Yasmin for at least 6 months as its so good!!!! Thats 5 months and I'm definitely coming off of it at the end of this packet I cannot handle acne at this age and the moodswings beware anyone who is told to try this pill. I am researching but I cannot find any other pill that seems like it will help me Does anyone have any ideas what I can do next ???????
Am now trying my 5th pill which my GP has said can help skin although I am very doubtful!! Has anyone had any experience of Cilest improving skin? Have now been on it 5 days and am very nercous as to the side effects after my experience with other pills. If this doesnt work I am being referred back to the dermatologist in the hope of being put on Dianette on another attempt at Roaccutane, although this site has scared me senseless of Dianette, I dont know whats worse all these horror stories or acne at 25?!! Also trying Differin cream has anyone tried this either? x
I don't think there is any substitute for dianette. I'm 32 andI order my over the internet now my Gp won't give me it. I use it to get my skin under control then i come off it from time to time. Unfortunately i know the side effects can be awful but i'm one of the lucky ones so far no side effects. Roaccutane on line, also great drug, mega side effects but works a treat, as long as you know what your letting yourself in for. The side effect i got from roaccutane was dry eyes and skin. Also minocin MR antibiotic from your Gp in combinations with topicals might work. When i'm at my worse that is the one the Gp always gives me, and that hasn't changed in 14 years, the antibiotic for acne. Another thing you could do is go private, see a dematologist, she just phoned and booked in as if she was booking a hair appointment. They seen her within a week. I think it was the southern general hospital in glasgow she went to. Its the same dermatologists from the NHS that see private patients out of hours. Or im sure any private hospital ie Ross Hall paisley, will have dermatologists. I think 5 months is long enough to tell if a drug is going to work or not. These Gp don't have to live with acne and don't understand the embarrasment it causes, so get yourself on the net or book an appointment with a dermatologist. My sister only paid about £35 for appointment and additional for the prescriptions. Well worth it if it works
Thank you for your advice, my GP had me in tears as I have just changed doctors where they have none of my notes and also no idea to be honest, she asked me to try Cilest as a last alternative then she will refer me back to the dermatologist. Usually when I have asked before its been an immediate referral so not v happy! She told me I was too focused on my appearance which upset me greatly after suffering from this for 14 years and managing to control it until now. We'll see how this goes but I'm very doubtful it will work these terrible lumps all still there and dont seem to be going anywhere fast! I remember my bad experience of Roaccutane at 14 years old Think I'll be begging for Dianette at this rate although I've been told I'd have to have regular blood tests now if it is prescribed due to the danger of liver tumours eeek!!

Im a university student, aged 20. I started taking dianette when I was 15-16 as my skin became quite severe mainly on my face, which is horrible at that age as your already coming to terms with other changes in your body! Before that I hadn't had many problems and it seemed that my skin was brought on by stress, however eventually after a very traumatising year my skin was fine, then i came off Dianette as I was warned of possable long term effects, but my skin began to get bad again so i panacked & went back on. My skin got better and remained that way so I thought maybe I had outgrown acne & came off it 5 months ago, my skin was beautiful for about a month after when I started seeying spots appear again. This completely made me panic as its a real confidence killer & I've always been quite attractive, caring about my appearance and too make matters worse living with 7 beautiful friends with gorgeous skin! Im now back on Dianette & noticing a few improvements, but Im concerned about long term effects & coming off it again! Iv been on and off Dianette for 5 years. Whoever comes up with a safe, reliable cure for acne would be a millionaire for life.
starflower oil and evening primrose are good for balancing hormones, and they are also good for hair and nails
Also cod liver oil
Vitamins B and D. Too much vitamin A is not good for you
Benzoyl peroxide is very good (quinoderm 10%)
Use an oil free moisturiser and foundation
Dermologica is suppose to be very good howver i use clinique but some people find it too drying
use a face mask once a week to help cleanse your skin
There are ways to help your skin after dianette. Obviously your system is going to a bit messed up when you first stop taking it but once your hormones have settled it should be fine.
with those who think that going on (not stopping) dianette caused their hair to fall out, were the hairs falling out with the root attached? like the white bulb bit?
5-6 months into taking diane, i noticed my hair falling out something chronic. I have since stopped, only a bit over 2wks so i dont imagine the hair loss stopping in such a short space of time if diane was the cause.
has anyone experienced this hair loss and after stopping taking diane/dianette see their hair loss stop?
Hi everyone. i was just prescribed Dianette tabs today by my GP. i knew i had hormonal inbalance, and after eading your comments just afraid to touch them. Doc said i hav to take antibiotics as well. i dont know if its safe. These tabs are also work as contraception pills, but i had never tried pills before im positive 100% that it wont help me! i start having skin problems since i got my period at 13. it always acne on my forehead, shoulders and chest.im 18 now, and it got worse. im now having pigmentation problem on my chin. and after any of my spots disappear, a darkish brown spot is left on my skin. which means i also have a problem with wounds, cuz it doesnt cloth with new normal skin colour it turns either red or brownish! on top of that in the past 4 months im experiencing problem with my allocations from vagina. it ment to be almost transparent and smelless. the ones i have are either white or yellowy with a specific smell which i never had before. so i dont kow what to do!
