| My mother in law is a nasty woman. I am only saying all this as i can't tell anyone else. She frequently tells my husband she wishes he was never born. My own mum and i were very close, she passed away at the age of 56 18 months ago. I am 27 with two beautiful, young children. My family andd i are close. My mother in law on christmas day told me how she liked my husbands 1st wife more than me and inferred i was not a good mum to my children. We don't spend much time with her so how she can comment on any part of my life is beyond me. I discussed this with my husband and he says she has become bitter in her old age. Am i to put up with this forever?????? |

Doesnt sound nice at all. But its best not to get in the middle of the two of them as that a receipe for disastor. Best thing I suppose would be to play the smile game and spend as little time alone, with her as possible |

Or next time she says something that pi$$e$ you off, jump down her throat and make her feel guilty / apologise 2 u.
That way she will a) think about what she says to you & how she says it &
b) Stop trying to bully you.
She sounds like a nasty old bitch - some MIL are like that. They are used to wearing the trousers & just say what they think - offend or please. You must make her realise that she is offending you - otherwise she will just carry on. |

| hon, i can sympathize, i had 2 premiees 6 mon ago, one still in hospital now, never see mother in law who lives close by and she sent me an email saying i need to learn to be a mother and to be an adult. i rarely talk to this women. well my hubby gave me the same kind of excuses for along time, so i took matters in my own hands(after informing her how offended i was, her telling me to suck it up, so i told her how her lack of support made my husband cry and she told me i enjoyed watching him cry) any way, that was that, i went after every stupid thing she had done, and put her in her place. YOU CAN DO IT TOO! i felt so good and free after the crap she had done to us. |

I'm always having trouble with my soon to be mother in law, I realised yesterday that we are aways going to have conflict, no matter how much I try and keep the peace.
my advice to you, is what I wish I had done a few years ago, let your mother in law know exactly how you feel, don't worry about what you say to her, as long as you stand up to her, and then she won't be able to walk all over you.
why some people have to try and make our lives harder I will never understand, and it often is the case with in laws. |

| My mother in law is exactly the same. She tells my husband she does not love him, that he is ugly, tells me I am fat. We have just learned to ignore her. I know it is hard but you can. I think she is actually mentally ill and there is no reaction that will stop her evil, nastiness. |
