| Since I interact with people from all over the world on the is forum, I was wondering How often does Africa and even more specifically South Afrcia appear on your news. I was watching the news and thinking that if people from the Uk and or US where to watch our news bullitin they would either laugh or be astonded. So I thought you could mabye tell me , how much do you actually here anout the goings on here, in your news ? |

Never much news about Africa here . If theres anything it's about aids and Darfur and that comes and goes .For awhile there was alot of news about how Zimbabwe has gone to hell but no more .
As for South Africa I think all we actually hear about is the aids epidemic .
Most of the foreign news is about the middle east and Europe . |

Anyone with access to the internet has no excuse for parochialism from relying on local news media. With the net, there is no "overseas" because news from every country is available internationally.
I do recall reading about the bizarre (and, in my opinion, evil) practice by South African men with HIV of raping babies in the belief that this act will cause the HIV to be completely absorbed by the baby, curing the rapist. |

| Tama, our TV news is dominated by events in the UK foremost and after that we get news from the States, or perhaps France if theres an election or Euro news. Iraq tends to spring up quite often for obvious reasons. Africa only if there is some atrocity [Im thinking of Rwanda] or famine. Our radio journalism - mainly Radio 4 is much better, more wide ranging with world news dominating and in depth reports which we just dont get on TV news [which lets face it myron, most people watch despite the internet...] |

| Shark Week on Discovery Channel usually has a visit to Durban and Great White Shark footage. Hasn't been much news since Apartheid though. We do get stories of stray moose in backyards in the winter though. |

I suppose its normal, our evening news is also mostly relating to murders and kidnappings and strikes that have happened here, they also show a fair amount on Iraq. We do get a bit on the US when you have hurricanes or when you have elections.
I know the Internet is a news source, but I dont google individual places overseas, I may just read the articles that make the headlines on the news sites.
Thanks for the input. If you ever feel the need to read about SA www.news24.com is quiet a good site for that. |

I dont know how this came about, but here if you want more money, mass action striking takes place, and they'll strike for as long as it takes, The civil workers are asking for a 12 % increase, now thats double the standard yearly increase as far as I know. |
