Are Human beings entitled to rights - if so what should they be and how far should these stretch?
At some point in the future - people are going to need perhaps a conversation as to the nature and scope of rights!
Personally I seriously fear for the future when the concept of human rights seems to be scapegoated - when the problem really lies with the lack of common sense applied to a particular situation. It really gets to me how the media / politicians etc cry foul when some unpleasant person has won somekind of concession on the basis of human rights legislation - and instead of attacking the latter of the law - it seems that they are attacking the spirit of it!
At the other end of the scale - the human rights concept is used as a trojan horse to put a humanitarian facade on varied dastardly deeds conducting by Western Governments/corporations!
Any comments on this! |
Human rights are an absolute necessity...for the law-abiding citizens of this world.
But not the POW's in Guantano Bay or anywhere else in the world. No way! |

If they are POWs - Does that mean they are or at least should be protected by the Geneva convention?
So are you saying that US troops captured (Or kidnapped in political vocab) should not be complaining if the wit does not carry into war zones such as Iraq or Afghanistan? |

Technically speaking they ARE protected by the Geneva convention, but they SHOULDN'T be.
Thank god the U.S is doing the right thing down there. |

| Jails bad enough , torturing people over 5 years after they were locked up is wrong and stupid. |

I'd hardly call that "torture." The only thing down there that comes close to torture is waterboarding, and that still doesn't come close to the forms of torture traditionally used by the world-and especially Saddam and Hitler. |

There's what they say and what they do ......................
The ep's that got put away for being bad at Abu Ghraib prison ( including my twin Lynndie England ) we're only doing stuff without orders that they saw others acting under orders do every day ..................
Have heard from soldiers who have sen it that the secret police from all sorts of arab dictatorships and racist israel are there healping us to torture info out of the prisoners .................
The bush administration is saying torture is bad but since he loves pretending he's tough guy turns a blind eye ....................
Down in Guantanamo there cut off from the world and these people held there are after all the enemy , all lending itself to torture .
Maybe coming from the street I understand this better then most . Cops aren't supposed to torture you . Under the law you don't have to talk , can cut off any interview , get to call a lawyer, and there all sorts of other laws and policys that can put the police in jail if they start getting violent .BUT ...................have seen /known the police to do verything from hold peoples heads in buckets of water, toilets /urinals , hit with phone books , play Russian roulette , poke with electric cattle prods ,and the old fashioned twisting of arms , choking , and beating the crap( which has really occured ) to get people talking .......... |

Your sources aren't very good.
The police are here to protect us, not kill us.
Now the POW's, they want to kill us. What we are doing to them is completely justified, and f..k the geneva convention. |

| Lena, how can you be so liberal getting your news from such conservative sources. Electronic media like TV news is the repetitive mouthpiece of the ultra conservative administration. CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, all of them. I watch them in the morning and by afternoon, am disgusted with the "Bush is Great" brainwashing they utter and chant. |

Cops have a lousy job to do ....................no wonder so many wind up drunkards and they retire as soon as they can .I wud too.
But it gets wild in the slums and so do they ...............in addition to all the other stuff also used to listen to a friend's husband who was a retired cop laffing away with his cop buddys about the crazy things they'd done to " coons ,'billys , rednecks ,spics , and white trash " like pistol whip them , handcuff the to the train track , beat 'em senseless , and put them on a freight train headed out west ,and put suspects in a big circle of polices then use them for punching bags
