Lake Garda

Anyone been to Lake Garda? THinking about a 2 week holiday there in the summer. Is 2 weeks too long, and is there plenty to do?

Hi there, I've been to Lake Garda a couple of times, and really it depends what sort of thing you want from a holiday as to whether or not 2 weeks is "too long"... there really isn't a great deal of cultural interest in and around the actual resorts, but there are some great excursions to be had, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Make sure you explore all the islands, and in the summer a dip in the lake is a must; it being a freshwater lake, the water is like silk!

Ooooooohhh it sounds fab! I used to be someone who could just sit by a pool and not move for 2 weeks, but now I'm getting older, I want to go and explore! Sounds like the sort of exploring I like to do! Thanks for your help!

Lake Garda is a lovely place, there's so much to do. It does have a bit of everything, so you can go shopping in markets, hop on a boat and visit all the other lakeside towns (and the boats are so cheap), visit all the historic castles, go swimming, whatever you want. There are also great trips to nearby towns, when I was there I think i went to Florence and Venice. A couple of warnings though: if you go in the summer there is a chance of there being several storms. They are mostly during the night, but they are pretty huge. And secondly, because Lake Garda used to belong to Austria, there are a lot of German tourists there. I don't mean that badly btw, not at all, but just so you know when you walk into a shop the italians won't have english as their second language, most of them will speak a bit but they nearly all speak german.
