Shark defence

1 month ago 17th May 13:15

An Australian man saved himself from a shark attack by poking its eye.

37-year-old teacher Jason Cull was swimming off Middleton Beach in Western Australia, when he saw a Great White shark.

The deadly creature bit Cull's leg and tried to pull him under.

Cull said: "Initially I thought it was a dolphin but when it came up and banged straight into me, I realised what it was. I remember being dragged backwards underwater. I felt along it, found its eye and I poked it. That's when it let go."

Cull surfaced and shouted a warning to other swimmers before swimming back to shore- with the shark circling him. He was aided to the beach then airlifted to hospital and treated for a serious bite wound on his leg.
