An Italian lifeguard was fined £800 after leaving a blow-up doll in his place 'on duty' while he left his lookout post for a break.
The rescuer placed the inflatable, complete with sunglasses, binoculars and a whistle in its mouth, in his seat while he went away.
Coastguard chief Danilo Manconi said: "This man violated all the rules. It's lucky there was not an emergency while he left his post."
However, the disguise wasn't enough to fool the head of the region's coastguard service in Imperia, north-west Italy, who discovered the trick and fined him.
